A few people cycle in Denmark (pop. 5m).. and they've made more great drama.

No bikes in Copenhagen tonight but a great two parter.
    - great, well formed characters .check
    - great story based on peace negotiations in Africa .check
    - political and industrial chicanery .check
    - media dilemmas .check

    - If you're looking for something worth watching on iPlayer or repaeted on BBC4 .check

The inner workings of media and power have rarely been filmed better.

Very watchable but there's a lot of cardboard cutout characters in there.

Yes... but it's Scandinavian cardboard, so much better! ;-)

What's the forum's favourite Nordic drama then...?
Or are we not persuaded by the genre?

A very fine conclusion. When's it on again?

    It's all going horribly wrong.....(!)

Trust a Scottish female politician to muscle in when a political drama is shown at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh!

The next Borgen is being shown on Danish TV right now I think.

Reporter Katrine Fønsmark on her bicycle in this shot - not that you often see her going anywhere on it!

Shame they forgot to highlight the 'bicycle culture', Scottish politicians might have got some useful hints.

Borgen was at least less car-centric than 'The Killing' where only the victims seemed to cycle!
If I remember correctly the first and third Killings had two young women's bicycles as evidence. Not that the Danes think that cycling a bike attracts murder or anything ;-).

But of course the Killing and The Bridge did have an eye on the transatlantic remakes where the bike has to make sense (visual shorthand etc).

The last Borgen episode showed the Statsminister repairing her bike - but only when she was having time at home and some leave from the ministerial car.

Will Nicola Sturgeon now cycle her bike to Holyrood and out-Dane the Danes?

  9. Not got round to Borgen yet - just working throug series 2 of the Killing. Definitely notable for the lack of cycling. Actually, no, it's notable for being really good telly drama with a brilliant (obviously flawed, but she has to be, it's a telly cop drama) main character, who just also happens to be cute as a button.

The lack of cycling is 'noted' rather than 'notable'. Does seem an odd omission, just simply because it's so prevalent and normal in Copenhagen.

Also the leader of the Greens was seen cycling up to the ministerial limo in the penultimate episode,

I was late to the series, tried to resist, but there was not much else decent on telly of a Saturday night...

The Deputy First Minister was even accused of spending too much time watching the Danish political drama Borgen, of which she is a fan, instead of focusing on Scotland’s economy.
