Honestly, trying to build off-road paths when there's land ownership issues on such a minor route is a complete non-starter.

The B1345 and surrounding roads simply need to be filtered to prevent through-motor-traffic. Let the cars stick to the A roads!

East Lothian Council leader Norman Hampshire said despite the local authority’s backing, “we don't have the land available to create that safe route”.

He told the planning committee last month: "We spoke to the landowner, but he has refused to sell the land to the council, so it is something we can't achieve at this time."

Compulsory purchase powers not available to ELC?

West Lothian Council have used them to buy land for a cycle path in recent years.

Does this B-4-numbers road really need a segregated cyclelane? Or does it actually need a filter?

Tell you what, here's the deal: We put a modal filter (strategic closure) on the B1345. Then let's see how long it takes for the landowner to sell their strip of land...

Honestly, councils. They have no clue how to negotiate...

Bit of waste ground in St Andrews subject to compulsory purchase but the landowners are disputing in court. Seems only to be straightforward when powerful vested interests and masons are not involved?

Cala Homes has completed a new 170-metre lit path for walkers and cyclists, connecting the Saltcoats development through Millennium Wood's eastern strip to form Memorial Park's southern edge.

The Drem-Gullane Path Campaign welcomes this new route, which offers a direct, safe link to Gullane Primary School, local sports facilities, and nearby homes, and supports everyday journeys on foot or bike.

    Join us to celebrate!

Come along to a short 30-minute photocall to mark the completion of the path. Bring your children, friends, neighbours, dogs, prams and bicycies!

Whether you're into cycling or love a good walk, we'd love to see you there.

    Date: Monday 24 August 2026

    Time: 10am

Location: Southern edge of Millennium Wood, leading to Memorial Park, next to Gullane Primary School.

    Best wishes,
