    Hi.

    I'm considering new chainring my front chainset and understand Stronglight last (very nearly) a lifetime. Spar Cycles has a triple for £59 - triple Stronglight. I have been told that the Bottom Bracket is not standard and I did find Stronglight Bottom Brackets along with Chainsets at Spar Cycles online.

    Anyone know if any Stronglight bb fits their range of Chainsets up front please?

    I just had a new BB fitted last weekend (bally typical) but I may still pursue a Stronglight 'set' for the front of the cotic. I'm looking at replacing the Sora double with a Stronglight Triple and guess I'll need a new deraileur up front. There are two choices for Tiagra 28.6-31.9??mm and 34.8mm. Can I assume this is the tube width? (I need clamp type not braise on type.) Cheers.

    Dave I can answer one bit, and that the sizes for the Tiagra changer do indeed denote tube circumference, or rather width.

    I managed to buckle a Stronglight big cog quite noticeably (50t) and a Stronglight middle cog very slightly (39t).

    Not sure what I did. Also, I had the triple replaced and always wondered why Mr Freewheelin went for a generic cog on the granny instead of all Stronglight. Maybe the bottom bracket was a factor?

    Matt from JustBikes replaced Stronglight with Stronglight. Despite me buckling them, they are good. I am just very rough on components

    by width surely you mean diameter and not circumference?

    @recombodna, you're right...width = diameter.

    Looking at Spa's website I assume it's the Impact Triple you're buying? Stronglight have moved over to JIS standard for their square taper BB's.

    In which case you need any JIS bottom bracket - if you want Stronglight buy one of the JP400 ones.

    My 1979 Peugeot is still running the original Stronglight chainset:

    Cheers Martin, I called Spar and asked and indeed a JP400 was what they suggested. I think I'm going to continue using my Cotic in Summer mode for Audaxing once I have the triple on.

    Thanks Recombodna. Was intending to get the frame blasted and re-painted this winter but due to change of job and impending house move it is going to have to wait a little longer for the funds to become available. Don't want to have it off the road during the summer based on how much I enjoy riding it so pencilling in October now...
