So I sent this letter on Friday, the day it happened to info@KMcontracts.com and have still recieved no reply :(

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I'm writing to complain at the strongest possible terms about the behavior of one of your drivers. Today at 14.40 on the corner of Buccleuch Street and Gifford park (where there is a bottle neck) whilst bicycling along I was passed at very high speed with less than an inch distance. I believe that this pass was malicious as the driver had to put his nearside wheels *into the cycle lane* to get that close to me, and was traveling faster when he passed me than when I first saw him. After making this dangerous pass they then immediately had to stop for a red light, fortunate as it allowed me to take their details. The van was displayed your companies livery and has the registration number PE56 BZH.

I cannot stress to much how close and frightening this was, I was very nearly knocked off and any deviation on my part (such as avoiding a pothole in the road) would have resulted in my death. I am a very experienced cyclist who doesn't scare easily but I honestly thought my number was up. This would have been extremely disturbing behavior on a nice clear sunny day, however this was during a blizzard which makes the action even more irresponsible.

I expect some resolution to this matter.

    Yours,

    ect.

What do you think my next step should be? contact them directly or just report it to the police and be done with it?

Send them a letter, sometimes paper has more effect. But lets face it they don't care, the police won't care its just bloody depressing and no one seems to want to deal with the problem...

This company has a direct relationship with the public and in particular with house/flat owners. Just mention in the passing that you know a lot of other cyclists who are also property owners.!

    Just a thought

    All of the above?

I hate how often people get away with this crap - which is all the time.

I'd imagine the police won't do anything given the lack of evidence. However, mentioning this thread to KM Contracts might be useful, as publicity regarding their drivers deliberately intimidating vulnerable road users rarely goes down well.

Particularly if we subtly attempt to bump this up Google, by, you know, including the company name and web address. KM Contracts. http://www.kmcontracts.com/. Ahem.

That being said, it generally takes First Bus over three weeks to get back to me, and they just send out a generic letter. The next time I have to grumble at them I'm tempted to print it out for them and they can just post it back to me.

For a lovely example of this working well, 'councillor michael stanton' probably regrets stating that the world would be better off if a certain recumbent cyclist down south was dead.
