but i don't understand how anyone could paint on the lines like that. were their instructions wrong? are they incompetent? how hard it is to 'reinstate' existing markings?

this is really basic stuff. or ought to be

    "I'm @justacwab on Twitter"

    Ah!

"stop line isn't dashed at the entry to the ASL box"

    Yes that is wrong!

"The fact that these lights were replaced and the road resurfaced on the 'flagship' bike route without any improvement for cycling (where a left hook risk exists northbound and a traffic light bypass could be added southbound) says a lot about how cycling is viewed by the council."

Yes and no. It certainly highlights the lack of joined-up-anything.

I presume the lights are replacements and nothing has changed in cycle/sequence(?)

The markings have changed and because of filter and parked cars might be worse(?)

I have always thought that QBC would have been much more highly regarded if 'details' like the surface at the WPSt junction had been done as part of the project - 'different budget'.

"At least the police vaguely clarified that cyclists can enter the stop box even if there's no dashed entry point."

    Really? When/where?

"how hard it is to 'reinstate' existing markings?"

Well they haven't, so someone somewhere decided to change things.

I'm assuming that the someone referred to was of a view that an ASL in the left filter lane was 'dangerous' and ought to be removed, to avoid cyclists undertaking the left hand side of left turning vehicles/HGVs perhaps?

Or maybe it's just a cock up.
