Cost of parking (amoungst other things) to rise:

Going up 20p to £3 an hour in some locations.

Very few people can afford to drive in and park in the city centre as it is

Apart from the thousands who clearly do. Every day.

  3. What kappers said. Given how full the city centre parking spaces are every day then that r-a-q is clearly talking garbage.

The majority of them lone drivers with no passengers.

  5. Some of the comments on that article would really make you think the end is nigh in Edinburgh.

It's only a matter of time before Rent-a-quote invokes Godwin's Law or compares CEC parking revenue to slavery or something.

Funding cuts from central government mean the council must find £95m in savings over the next five years

That's the real story. Focussing on parking charges is a terrible way to spin the decisions on the council budget.

What the rate of inflation is?

Even if they last went up 12 months ago, £2.80 * 1.04 = £2.92 , so an increase to £3 is barely eight pence. I can't drive my car more than 100m for that.

I love seeing The Motorists squeal in indignation.

I don't, it fuels that victim-complex that makes them dig their heels in even further.

Nice contrast with Outraged of the IAM and the guy from The Stand who commented on the increased cost of hiring the Assembly Rooms - still quite cheap, he said, good value really. Bravo!

Transport convener Councillor Lesley Hinds, said: “The surplus income generated by parking charges funds vital services that benefit the city’s transport infrastructure as a whole, such as pothole repairs.”
