wearable proximity detection

    As briefly mentioned in NewScientist, it could be used "to boost cyclists' awareness of other traffic on the road." A bit like the bit in The Algebraist where Taince shifts the debris readout to skin-sensation.

    It'd be equally suitable to mount sensors on the outside of motor vehicles which physically informed the driver when they were excessively proximal to something, perhaps with a sharp warning jab rather than a mere sensation of pressure.

    Surely the only cyclists who could be more aware of other traffic on the road are those using earphones; easily sorted without technological innovation.

    It would make all the arguments about whether or not a driver close-passed you a bit more fact based ...

    actually could have done with this in Copenhagen where there are so many bikes it would be good to know if some granny was speeding up on the fast lane beside you before you pulled out to overtake the cargo bike laden with kids...
