Never mind that there are plans to build 300 new houses on greenbelt farm land in Balerno

It's a fact of life that as the local population increases, more houses will be built.

Very unwise IMO to buy anywhere on the basis that it won't be expanded in your lifetime, especially somewhere with good schools and stratospheric housing prices like the Lanark Rd corridor. Councils and the government can't withstand the kind of money and lobbying pressure that is brought to bear.

I say this as someone who's viewing houses in this part of the world..! (although now i wonder if we shouldn't wait for a massive development to reduce competition, hence prices, for the houses we fancy).

Consultation 28th Feb 4pm to 8pm Balerno community centre

There is planning permission for six houses on the site opposite my house. I previously opposed 30 houses going in. I do not think I would oppose six. I understand from community council that the planners are happy but the application will be rejected on basis of road access. the infrastructure is not there in terms of the A70 and access roads for big developments, it is Barmy for housing developers to just keep building more and more houses to facilitate hundreds more cars on the A70 and not to be made to pay towards road upkeep. However, small developments are not normally problematic and if the developer doesn't try to cram houses into the site they are normally given he go ahead. Looks like small blocks of flats will be built in the other direction from me on what was the railway cutting.
