Why not paint some double yellow lines there? They don't seem to be legally enforceable either, at least judging by the squads of cars parked all day on them on Hatton Place.

Completely blocked by Jambos this afternoon.
Might I suggest we toast the existence of the kerb with paper cups of fizzily fermented grape juice, which we then fill with water(if only there was a source of water nearby) and lay down in a parking bay pattern that shamelessly steals an idea Le W.Cow had ages ago?

Scotmid does a decent fairtrade fizz. ...we could publicise fairtrade fortnight and the cycle access in one swell foop.

Tonight? Kinda need to toast it soon after creation or it'd be odd, and I've no plans except being kinda bored fir this evening. I'll even bring along a cute wee mini Schnauzer, if no-one objects.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Do we want to invite the politicos? Tomorrow better for me. Could come after gardening at the royal - might be able to drag some of them along too.
Posted 11 years ago # -
No Schnauzer tomorrow (sad face, it's going oop north) but I'm free tomorrow evening too.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Okay folks- put on your party hats - 4 pm it is. See you there?!
Posted 11 years ago # -
If anyone happens to know a place that sells paper cups and is open on Sundays, please spill dem beans. Plastic disposable ones are disagreeable to me for this purpose.

I tried the new kerb on Friday evening and rode off the slanted bit by mistake because it was dark by then. I therefore need to practice. I also have some new brake blocks to break in so I'll endeavour to stop by.

Care to join the (dropped) kerb appreciation society? Inaugural meeting today 4pm at Harrison Park #weedropofbubbly @CyclingEdin @BCCletts"
Posted 11 years ago # -
Uberuce - You could get folk to bring their own camping mug? Assuming everyone has a camping mug (they do right?).
Posted 11 years ago # -
Enamel or plastic?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Whatever tickles your fancy.
Posted 11 years ago # -
I'll bring along some actual flutes for the lulz.
Posted 11 years ago # -
You have camping flutes? That's dedication.

"
It really is only a matter of time before campsites everywhere will have their own camping flutes"

Hey! Completely missed this thread!
Well, makes me feel like going along to the SWNP transport meeting might have been of some use :) I think we should be happy something happened :D But seriously the lack of a white stripe is pretty lame.
Deleted suggestion of sorting it ourselves (getting carried away with the big society).
I'm not sure when the next SWNP meeting is, will mention this there again. I guess the new councillors might be making some progress though? Try to be a bit positive people!

Did anyone count used glasses? I had four 'camping flutes', uberuce brought 2 (?4) glass ones, plus two packs (10 each?) of paper, which suggests at least 20 adult imbibers?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Four glasses from moi, and three returned paper cups from 16.
The paper cup exclusion zone was a dismal failure - after I turned round to use the kerb someone squished three of them. When I went back just now, all but one was pancaked.

That's a rather impressive turnout!

"That's a rather impressive turnout!"
Well you know -
Build a dropped kerb and they will come.
Or maybe it was the free booze...

Uberuce - I think there's a diff between using cups to demarcate an accepted and legislated, but unenforced bike lane, versus your attempt to use the cups to delineate a space that ought to be exempt from parking. It was a fun end to the mini- event, but unlikely to last long.
Posted 11 years ago # -
Thanks SRD for organising the impromptu celebration [edit: and fiz]! Even minimoth's mum suggested popping over with a lick of white paint to finish the job!
Thanks for the photos chdot - especially of me with the bottle ;P I didn't drink all of it!
@uberuce, glad to see your arm appears to be functioning normally. Sorry the paper-cup experiment failed. Maybe CCE needs its own traffic cones for future events :P
Posted 11 years ago # -
That really was quite impressive!
Paper cup experiment, that reminds me now it's lighter in the mornings...
Posted 11 years ago # -
thanks Lionfishy but credit should go to uberuce at least as much as me - probably more because he forced us to set a date/time :)
