March 29th sounds like a good day for a lazy social meetup. I could even bring the infrastructure deficiency monitoring vehicle.

I will come if people will be hanging around later than 8, as I don't start work till 12 it makes no sense otherwise :)

@rtc There are usually still folk there when I turn up around 8.50.

I may be along early this time though.

Think I'll give it a go on the 29th. Whats the bike parking like ? Locks required ?

Adequate - depending how many people turn up.

Railings and things to lean bikes on.

Locks always advisable - though people might be sitting outside...

    "Whats the bike parking like?"

Utterly inadequate given the location. Unbelievable that there are no bike racks anywhere.

    are no bike racks anywhere

You could use the Sheffield stands at the top of MMW and walk down :)

yes, amazing that there's no racks there, PY benefits heavily from cyclist trade and the not-a-bike-rack railings are always covered in bicycles. Would have thought a Scandinavian business would have been keen on pressuring the Quartermile people to install some. Their business looks good when there's fashionable old shopper and Dutch bikes outside. Even ones with the saddles held on with Gaffer tape.

There are some racks around the corner at the other end of the building (ie beside Starbucks). They rarely have more than 1 bike on them.

  9. Worse than that the railings that are right beside PY actually have 'no bicycle parking' signs on them!

Well we wouldn't want to clutter up the gated communities of the Quartermile which looked oh-so-nice and bike-free in the artist's impressions.

I thought we'd got the 'no bicycle parking' signs removed sometime last year - didn't somebody here contact Peter's Yard HQ about it and they wrote back to say that they were strongly pro-cycling and were disturbed to hear about these signs and would get them removed, and the signs disappeared shortly afterwards?

If I could be bothered I'd turn up the CCE thread in which all this exciting stuff happened...

  12. cc, that was me, and that was the response I got (from Peter himself!) but the signs remained stubbornly in place. I'm pretty sure I was also told some proper bike stands were in the offing though....

Ah! I could have sworn the signs had gone but I'm not a regular and haven't looked that way for some months.

  14. Now doubting myself and going to have to have a gander to make sure I'm not misremembering their continued existence! :D

There's also the large blue "Cyclist Dismount" sign at the Starbucks end of the courtyard bit.

Is it possible for a recumbent rider to dismount, given that they would be more akin to 'installed' than 'mounted'?

As I said two weeks ago -

"It may be the first PY of the year where sitting outside is an option."

    Mmm.

No such thing as bad weather, just inadequate sitting-inside.

I won't make this as we have Friday off instead of Monday. Thursday would have been good (and its payday) but not Fri sorry.

If the weather isn't too inclement on Friday, would be up for a coffee followed buy a post-prandial trundle around somewhere
