  1. I'm not entirely sure it fits in with a Bike Festival event in the way Kim was imagining, but rather the resulting video might be something he's interesting in showing (happy to have it suggested otherwise!). First off, the date - Saturday 18th May is my suggested diary spot.

    The challenge:

I like the idea of replacing washing machines with fridges. Still bulky, still heavy.

3 teams of two (each with their own cameraman/woman - additional people mean additional cameras which gives the best 'editing-into-something-entertaining' potential)

One team using cargobike (Bakfiets or 8Freight)
One team using trailer (Uberuce? Dave?)
One team using.... Noomad!!! (for that Top Gear-esque moment where all arrive at the start point one after the other and the other two get to laugh at the Noomad when it arrives...)

    Start point - Meadows
End point - Seafield Recycling Centre
Very end point - Espy pub, Porty Prom

    Route 1 - Innocent/Porty/Seafield
    Route 2 - George IV/Leith/Seafield
    Route 3 - Holyrood/Portobello Road/Seafield

And... Erm.... That's it! We need three old fridges, 5 other people who are happy to go in front of the camera (well-known that I'm happy to make an arse of myself) and at least 3 people willing to follow with camera(s).

It's not strictly a race; want plenty of camera material, so ride-by shots and the like. Surely no-one believes the Top Gear 'races' are actual races?

@SRD, anticipating the query on little people being involved! Obviously not in the moving about of an old fridge, but filming from the back of a tandem I could imagine.

    .cc/CCE all inclusive

You'll have to drag your own fridge from Fife though...

Was about to say '?', but just think I twigged!

  8. Hmmmm, maybe go 25th May - the day before PoP might be a bit too 'clashy', especially for those actively involved in PoP!

    "I'm in"

Does the Noomad act like a forklift truck? As in braced infront of the two-wheeled attachment?

    Posted 11 years ago #
  11. @chdot, you have seen the threads on PoP moving to the 19th?

@kaputnik, I'll have to fashion something to hold the fridge. Without rider this will likely tip the whole thing forward, plus braking will lead to an enforced endo, giving much comedy video potential... ;)

nah. the 18th gives something for all the people annoyed about the pop time change to attend. and we can leaflet. and generally have fun - especially for folk who have turned up early.

brilliant idea. (as long as you don't pinch all the media coverage)

Before anyone else jumps in POP is likely to move to the 19th not the 26th!!!

Wait, so is PoP moving weekends as well as days? I've completely lost track.

26th would work for me, although the 25th is the Snow Roads it would make a good recovery ride.

You need some sort of castored anti-tipping frame. Plus relocate the breeze-block from the washing machine to your Carradice. Or pack a very big lunch.

  17. Aye, spotted my error a little too late for people to latch onto it before I edited! PoP moving to 19th!

    "PoP moving to 19th"

    Is that official??

    SO when is FridgeRun??

    Posted 11 years ago #
  19. Hmmm, depends on confirmation of PoP definitely moving or not really. Tempted to go with the 18th if the Snow Roads are 25th as we lose some riders to that!

Yes. definitely moving to 19th. We figuratively shook hands on it about 30 seconds ago. Signing on dotted line on Thursday.

It's not absolutely official until we've actually had permission. Meeting will be on Thursday

I'm game. Can provide trailer-hauling bike and video camera. Could also provide trailer but it'd be a faff on the train, so I'll defer to Mssrs Dave and Uberuce unless they both have cataclysmic trailer incidents beforehand...

I'm in for the 18th - a slot appears to have opened up in my whirlwind diary...

chdot says "You'll have to drag your own fridge from Fife though..."

Well I do own a trailer, and have been looking for an excuse to butcher it to make a decent trailer for shipping fridges, washing machines, sideboards... ;O)

Smudge has out childrens trailer but I don't know if he uses it...
