So, as anyone who knows me - I can mend things but I can't make them work.

Anyone got recommendations on shops for getting canti brakes desqueeling very quickly? I'm too spamhanded to do it properly.

    Cheers!

    Toe in the pads.

I used to put in one bit of card board between the pad and rim at the front and two bits of cardboard at the back when I was adjusting them.

The first thing I always check for is a dirty rim.

Clean rim gently with some degreaser. Sand down the brake pad surface a little to remove the polished oily/rubbery residue that builds up. Toe in the pads slightly. Replace pads with ones of higher quality (those with a medal slot the pad slides into, if you've got the solid rubber ones that have the bolt cast into them)

I'll give it another shot. Tried all of the above (but replacing the pads - they're not that old) but just can't seem to get it right.

I'll try again and if I'm still being a numpty I'll wheel it into a shop and bow my head in shame.

Have you got a Third hand or old toe clip strap to hold them in place while you fettle?

Sometimes things just sort thenselves - and I don't think a shop will think anything other than the sound suggestions above.

    And canti breaks do squeal.

Out of curiosity, is it both wheels?

I've had a lot of canti brakes before but these ones just sound like a pricked pig! Nah, I've got them on the back but they're never used as it's got a fixed hub.

You're all wrong. The answer to your question DeathbyPompi(no) is Bicycleworks, Argyle Place.
