  1. Alrighty folks - the petition mentioned in another thread at another time was cut n' pasted (and shortened slightly) and has been accepted by the Council site for such things.

Click here to view and sign (if you are so-minded).]

    Done.
Was cycling through the park a couples of Sundays ago, quite a few parents teaching their kids to cycle. What a treat it would be if that was permanently available

I think I may have been the first person to sign last night.

Here's hoping we reach the target number of signatures. 500 required I think before the Petitions Committee will look at it...

@CyclingEdin I'm all for increasing provision for cyclists but don't think this is necessary. HP is important link for vehicular traffic.

@CyclingEdin No, it's hardly a dangerous road for pedestrians and cyclists. I would, however, like a cycle lane on Queensferry Road.

@CyclingEdin Fab Idea. Its a real rat run. Traffic brings noise to a place that could be a peaceful retreat. Right in the middle of the city

@glenntait @CyclingEdin Close HP and all other local roads become more dangerous for cyclists. And cyclists are safely separated in HP. No!

Surely won't be hard to get 500 by the closing date.

I'm in. That second tweet is odd - closing the park would be free (barriers already built and in place) and hardly likely to impact provision elsewhere.

You need to enter an Edinburgh address to enter.

Done. The question is, can I bothered arguing with Robert_drysdale, who apparently reckons using the cycle path to go down Queen's Drive is safe?

    Done.

  17. And that there's not a separated path on the south side. And that the path, when busy, is no place to be riding at 20mph. And there's that horrible knobbly concrete bit.

Thing is, it's not JUST about cycle safety. It's about it being a 'park' - I can see EEN picking this up and running it as a 'cyclists want the roads to themselves' piece. Everyone will miss the point that this is about having a useable space for everyone without the attendant noise of motorised traffic.

Done, although I had to do a fair bit of (perfect legitimate to me) lying to be able to submit it. Being a Fife resident, my address wasn't on the list. But I work in Edinburgh, although my employer's address isn't there. I assume the list is populated from the Council Tax or electoral register. So I picked an address adjacent to my office.

But seeing as I contribute to the taxes that fund 80% of Edinburgh City Council and most of Historic Scotland, I feel pretty justified in forcing my signature in.

You live in the park?? In one of the trees?

@dubCow - Yarp. It's pleasant in extremis going round Arthur's Seat or just through the park when it's got no engines in it that aren't beauttocks.

Quite a Twitter 'conversation' going on.

    Won't add them all here.

It's cyclist-on-cyclist, so nopes. For my sins I've pitched in.

I've voted, but wouldn't mind at all if they just improved access to the cycle paths, so that I don't have to do a 90 degree turn halfway around a roundabout to get to a path. I also wouldn't mind if there were a few ANPR 20mph average speed cameras to make motorists slow the heck down.

As a walker, I do enjoy it more when there is less intrusion of road noise.

As a cyclist, I don't like mixing with pedestrians if possible & certainly on the road down toward Holyrood from the RCP it is easy to reach high speeds without pedaling. On the high road the first bit is too narrow for cars to safely pass cyclists, yet the pavement isn't really suitable for shared use.

Why is the debate fixated on cycling? The petition doesn't mention cycling at all, except as an incidental.

99% of the time I'm in the park I am on foot, and I hate the constant stream of traffic (25,000 a day!)

.@CyclingEdin ever since path went in in HP, I've had "get orf my road" vibes when cycling down at 30mph.

@Robert_Drysdale @CyclingEdin @glenntait @scotbot Lower the barriers. Simpleser. There's also the joggers, pedestrians and wee floofy dogs.

@scotbot now you're getting silly re: inverlieth. HP is massive Widen the pavements in HP is the right answer + speed enforcement 20mph IMO
