Adventure Show - BBC2 Scotland Sun 17 Mar 8pm
I was filmed for a morning cycling around Arthur's Seat/Salisbury Crags in January in the snow and also at Shawfair Park Hospital, Edinburgh. Some of you may know I lost 12.5 stone after gastric band surgery. The show will include the Stathpeffer 24 Hour MTB endurance race, Cameron McNeish doing a walking bit and my piece on obesity/cycling. I have not seen the piece, the editor from TripleEcho says it’s very inspirational and positive for the cycling/obesity message. The main focus is about getting back to cycling and doing the things you did when you were younger. TripleEcho came to me for the story. It will certainly bring a more positive light to cycling than my recent BBC Newsnight ambush.

Excellent, sounds like one that's definitely to watch :)

Great stuff!

Thanks! I'll watch.
I always try to watch that programme anyway but often forget, difficult to keep track of it when it's on just once a month or so.

Reminder that the show also covers the 24 hour Strathpuffer race - tonight BBC2.
Bike technician/mechanic/fixer from The Bicycle Works did it with her friend in one of the few female teams. She reckons that the show will focus on those that suffered most!

Woo, thanks for the reminder! Got to the DVR in time.

SRD, on their FB page it says it will be on i-player 'probably on Monday'

Cool. Thanks charter hall! (actually watched some of it anyway, but will look forward to whole thing without squirmy kids when available).

<grin>
Bad news I'm afraid on this front - the squirmy stage lasts substantially longer than iPlayer's timeout.

(who'll actually be a bit disappointed when the squirmy stage passes, as that probably will coincide with the end of the cuddly stage)Posted 11 years ago # -
I think the squirmy stage is followed by the surly stage, isn't it? So you'll just get loads of backchat and "This is sooo boring" type comments...
Anyway, watched it. Felt a bit sorry for the Scottish Youth CX team. Superbly shot footage, as ever. Enjoyed it. Good spots on Mr. Oliver and the bargain hillwalking gear.

"Felt a bit sorry for the Scottish Youth CX team"
I was certainly surprised that a group so young had any sort of chance in an endurance event.
Wasn't clear if mechanical problems were due to cheap(er) equipment, rider error/inexperience or 'bad luck'.

I really like the show as it highlights so many great events and people involved in various outdoor pursuits.
I really like Oliver's piece on camera as well, staying fit and healthy all your life is a great message to get to people.

I haven't seen the programme yet, but last year the winners of the 4-person teams section was a team called "56 Combined (Yes - All U15)"... (by just under 10 minutes from a team from Alpine Bikes). yes, I'm sure they had a lot of support from enthusiastic parents, but one would expect the Alpine Bikes guys to have a good support crew too...
(Last year's results are here... I wanted to check exactly what the team was called)

They won it last year when they were 14! Must have re-named the team since then?
Posted 11 years ago # -
Yes the team has been renamed. Very enjoyable programme if you get the chance to see it (though Cameron McNeish irks me with his walking poles).
Posted 11 years ago # -
They'd have had to rename it as they'd got older!
Think programme said that this year there was a girl for first time, so not exactly same team.

Is on iPlayer iPlayer Adventure Show Episode 6
Chris Oliver is on about 37mins 10seconds.I was very pleased with the piece. Great for cycling, physical activity and obesity. TripleEcho did a good job. They are putting onto Vimeo later in the week permanently. I'll share Vimeo link when I know it.

Those young people (boys and girls are very good xc champions). Perhaps the course favours lighter smaller competitors?
