CC hubs - Cup & Cone?

Just had the Sora chainset swapped for a Stronglite Impact on the Cotic X and notice as I wheeled the bike out of the shop, the rear wheel / hub has play in the bearings. Later I stripped the rear down and notice that there is a grumbling / rumbling which I assume is well worn bearings?

I went on Cotic's website and found out that they ate CC Cartridge hubs. Does CC stand for Cup & Cone? Another search showed that apparently Cup & Cone may be easier to find parts for over Sealed hubs.

So whats the score? I assume I'll have no problem finding replacement bearings for the rear hub? I'm hoping so as I don't fancy another wheel build. My problem atm is the hubs have Cotic's logo on so I can't just search for the brand online.

I have asked Cotic and will prompt them later if they don't reply by email.

Cup & cone and cartridge bearing hubs are two completely different things. In this case the CC stands for Cotic Components not cup and cone so you'll need to buy cartridge bearings

If they're calling them cartridge odds are they're sealed bearings. Sealed bearings have the balls in a circular push fit cartridge which does the job of the race and the ball. You can get oem ones to fit but you'd really need to take the wheel apart to get the exact dimensions, probably safer to buy from Cotic or their dealers.

I don't know if you've found "simply bearings" but they'll probably stock what you need.

I think a hub can be either cup and cone (with loose bearings) or sealed cartridge bearings. But not both at the same time. i.e. you can't take a cartridge out and replace it with loose bearings in a cage.

Whether or not you can replace the bearings in a sealed-cartridge hub depends on whether the manufacturer allows this in the design. Some of the cheaper Shimano ones just have to be binned and replaced as a whole unit as you can't prise the cartridges out without damaging the seals.

Cool we at least if they are cartridge, I don't have to worry about getting the cup nut the exact tightness (considering they hubs are QR). Hopefully its an easy fix.
