I'm never sure whether this sort of thing is really of much interest to the clientele of CCE... but our favourite mail order store are doing a pretty good deal on Continental GP4000s tyres just now, which finally prompted me to finish writing my review of them:

A nice choice for anyone looking for audax tyres for instance. I'm experimenting with Ultremos, but have GP4000s to fall back on.

(Cue "how do you know you have too many bikes / tyres..." etc)

    Read the article its great.

"The Continental Competition tubular is so much slower than the Grand Prix 4000s that it’s the equivalent of riding up [edit] hill [/edit] – all the time.

    ;o)

Just be glad I didn't compare it to the Marathon Winters... :)

You could do, I could see how steep a hill I have to climb.

I'm not sure anyone has ever measured the Crr of the Marathon Winter... for what it's worth, a quick google finds the normal Marathon tyre in 32mm quoted around 0.00474 (but be careful, I'm not sure measurements taken by different people can be directly compared). 0.00537 for Panaracer Tour Guard.

0.00474 against 0.00284 is 0.2% gradient, but I'd have thought the deeper tread and studs made the Marathon Winter much slower than the road version.
