The race will now be two races due to high levels of interest. Fields will be drawn at random. This will allow for fair, safe and fun racing

Scottish Cycling is pleased to announce an exciting new programme in partnership with Scott Sports UK designed to highlight the fantastic skills of Scotland’s female coaches and race officials. Scottish Cycling is looking for female volunteers to help bring a two day coach led stage race event for women to the Royal Highland Show Ground at Ingliston, near Edinburgh on March the 23rd and 24th 2013.

The wording of that press release would seem to imply they're running the race to show off the coaches (fair enough) and the officials, odd no?

Looking at the routing I doubt you could pay me to cycle to Ingliston from my house. What a miserable place...

To/from Ingliston was fine on the Summer's evening when a few of us did it last year - in fact, the blast home along a largely deserted Glasgow Road and Costorphine Road was geat fun.

Lunchtime on a Sunday may be slightly less pleasant.

The programme was designed to develop more female coaches as there are little to none in Scotland.
The event is designed to introduce females attending the academies across the country to racing for the first time, led and directed by the academy coaches. The whole weekend IS a showcase of both coaches and new riders coming together in a truly unique setting. Ingliston is a great venue to race and the event is set to be a fabulous success.

Kirst, fair enough. Just seemed a fairly odd way to word it is all.

PS, The routing from my house has me routed passed the gyle and over the bypass then onto Glasgow Road even with the quiet route.

Yes, but there are decent cycle paths at side of dual carriageway.

CycleStreets is routing via an entrance just after the underpass, which is not one I know - I went on road towards airport and turned left (normal route).

This is is an adventurous, mostly off-road, route -

Though again I don't know the access suggested at west side of showground.

This one avoids the field exit from Edinburgh Park and uses Gogar Station Road which was very quiet a few Sundays ago.

Don't think I'd trust that one. I think the gate gets opened when the field is being used for car parking.

(Interesting "fast" option on that 2nd route)

What amazing days of Racing Academy! 12 female coaches and volunteers looking after 60 riders in weather most folk hide from. And no snow!
