Something a little different this coming Saturday, when the Midland (blue, HST-hauled) Pullman visits from Swindon, arriving at Waverley around 1pm with the "Edinburgh Christmas Pullman", and departing just before 4pm:

It comes to Edinburgh again on Tuesday 21st Nov, Thursday 23rd Nov, and Saturday 9th Dec.
I've heard tell that 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and/or D9000 Royal Scots Grey will be visiting on 23rd Nov as well:
There is a return to Watford scheduled for that afternoon but not sure which loco is involved - though I suspect it's D9000 which is based at Crewe.
I think 60007 may do the Fife Circle on the Saturday and then return to York on the Sunday but not all of the timings are on RTT yet.

Day 1 - London to Edinburgh
Diesel hauled London to York & steam hauled York to Edinburgh.
We leave London Kings Cross behind a vintage Deltic Diesel locomotive. Designed to replace the steam locomotives on the prestigious named express services, such as the Coronation & Flying Scotsman running from London to Edinburgh the Deltics are capable of speeds of up to 100mph. This quick turn of speed helps us progress rapidly northwards up the ECML to York. At York our Deltic detaches and stables to await our return journey and A4 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley" our steam locomotive for the holiday is attached. Leaving York at a more relaxed pace with wisps of steam passing the window we continue on the ECML passing over the viaducts above Durham with views down onto the city and then further north cross the Tyne at Newcastle on the impressive King Edward Bridge in the low afternoon sun. We cross the border under the cover of darkness as we make our way up the North Sea coastline to Edinburgh.

Sir Nigel Gresley is in town I think, parked up at Joppa. Not moving tomorrow, Fife Circle on Saturday and back to London on Sunday. (very much 'I think' - happy to be corrected by those with a better understanding of RTT)

This morning:
Sir Nigel Gresley was indeed in town but failed sometime after arrival on Thursday with a broken piston ring that the steam valve then ingested. Class 40 D213 Andania took the tour round the Forth instead.
The all-knowing bods on RailForums have found movement scheduled for Monday in which SNG will be towed to Carlisle by a class 20. I believe Crewe is the main destination but the path wasn't confirmed.

Spotted it still in Porty this morning, when it should have been in Fife, being pored over by people with huge spanners. Was hoping it would be back in action tomorrow as had planned to watch it head south through Brunstane Farm.

Speaking of trainy stuff no more, I was a little sad to see that the Shawfair mega-village suburb and possible associated works is now apparently taking over the former Monktonhall colliery site which is sporting huge piles of topsoil and a lot of ground works going on, including the laying of some huge sewer pipes and comprehensive provision of HERAS fencing and security Daleks.
What this means is that all routes from Harelaw to the remnants of the former Millerhill marshalling yard are also now off-limits to the public, thus ending decades of casual exploration. I'm glad I took the opportunity to properly root around the place three or four times (and which prompted the purchase of both of Michael Rhodes' books on marshalling yards).

I heard it somewhere near Waverley at lunchtime, although the 1Z54 service (South Sub clockwise to Gorgie) about now seems to have been cancelled and may result in the 1Z55 (Gorgie back to Waverley via the sub) getting cancelled too.

A giant 26-foot long LEGO model of the Forth Bridge, featuring two working train tracks, will be on display in Edinburgh at the annual Edinbrick charity model show on May 10 and 11. The model was created by a team from the LEGO UK Railways group and will be a highlight of the event. This is the first time the model will be displayed in Scotland, although it previously appeared in Manchester in 2024.

SRPS Railtours regrets that we have unfortunately had to cancel the Forth Circle steam tours featuring 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ on Thursday 14 & Monday 18 August and subsequent Aberdeen excursion scheduled for Saturday 23rd August.
Unfortunately, ticket sales for the Forth Circle trains have not reached the required level for us to commit to running these excursions. We can only apologise for the disappointment this has caused our passengers, these decisions are never taken lightly and every effort was exhausted in attempting to run these trains.
Our volunteer team has now contacted all guests booked on our trains with regards to refunds.

That's a real shame, but I noticed last week that the train paths had been removed from the system. Rather than lack of interested people, it probably comes down to cost of running a trip like that, and the consequent cost of tickets that are easily as much as a concert ticket.
When I was at The Greatest Gathering, down in Derby, the level of interest from people was absolutely enormous. Even the queue to get in was over half a mile long, and you had to have already bought your ticket, assuming you were able to buy one; they sold out both in the first round and the second. My ticket was £30 which isn't much in the grand scheme of things but the travel and hotel costs almost made me reconsider; I wondered how many other people did. It's hard though to describe just how many people were at the event, and my photos (and the five or six hours I spent there) didn't really do justice to the size of the event.

@Arellcat: Somehow I utterly failed to get the memo about the Greatest Gathering. I sort of got the idea that something was happening in Derby but it was only after it had happened that I found out when it was actually supposed to be happening. This was despite the fact that I do hang out on various railway-related forums. It didn't seem to be very widely advertised and I don't recall seeing any reporting about it on any of the MSM that I frequent, even after the event. Which is all doubly a shame because I don't often get a excuse to make a nostalgic visit to the city where I spent most of my adolescent life.
Glad to hear you had a good time there, though!
