It'll soon be time for The Great Britain XVIII, which comes from Aberdeen to Edinburgh on Friday, 24 April, arriving 1252 on platform 2:

Any idea which locomotive will be doing the hard work? I can't see any indication on RTT or the tour's web page. (RTT shows 1Z10 "pathed as a diesel locomotive".)

    “‘pathed as a diesel locomotive’”

That’s normal - NetworkRail system doesn’t have a category for steam!

Just means loco hauled not DMU

Only steam loco for first stage announced, presume others to follow

I don't know either, just that all 8 days are meant to be steam hauled, with the ubiquitous maroon WCRC class 47 on the back.

The only day that seems to be semi-confirmed is day 5 which is essentially The Jacobite and using a Black Five. What this also means is that if that loco isn't doing the Fort William to Aberdeen run the next day then there will be some other loco movements to look out for.

Would appear to be Black Five no.45407 doing the northern parts of the tour with class 47 no.47812 on the back. It's now on its way north through Dumfries & Galloway. The newly repaired SR no.34067 Tangmere was doing the rounds further south.

Quite a bit happening this weekend, with a tour up from Manchester and another from York, within minutes of each other, both coming up via WCML from Carlisle:

34067 Tangmere is scheduled for "The Edinburgh Flyer", which is the York to Edinburgh one:

The Manchester one is another posh red carpet* Northern Belle** service, "Edinburgh at Leisure":

    * not so posh when you see where at Waverley they unceremoniously store it ;-)
** so probably class 66 hauled
