Contrary to the slow market, Denmark is enjoying a very lively cycling culture. In the past decade Copenhagen evolved as the example for modern urban planners around the world, showing how to get people out of their cars and onto their bikes for commuting and urban transport. But this successful change in mentality by the Danish policymakers has not yet translated into a steady growing market.

I found this very interesting with Denmark (like NL) being a 'model' country.

"In 2011 the number of bicycle sold went up 1.4%, from 497,876 to 503,966. "

So ten per cent of population bought a bike. MTBs are big growth area. There are off road areas in Denmark though and it's not all flat. Plus Danes travel and cars can have bike racks.

Other growth area was road bikes - some being used for long distance commutes (as in NL). Specialist bikes like recumbents are suitably invisible in market terms. I've just sold a recumbent to someone in Smorum (between Roskilde and Copenhagen). They are wanting to use road wheels and keep out of the wind - maybe be more adaptors. Also had business from Finland.

Of course the Danes do have Leitra velomobile

    OTHER NEWS...
"10% of all adults in Denmark who want to purchase a new bicycle are considering buying an e-bike"

Cycling is easier than walking. E-biking is easier than cycling...?!

"Cycleurope's decision to close down its Kildemoes factory in Denmark brought an end to bicycle production in the country. Last year the number of produced bicycles was virtually zero. What's left of Denmark's bicycle production are a few small manufacturers producing for the home market only, such as Cyckelfabrikken in Copenhagen."

This is the globalised market in action. You can have anything you want as long as you accept it's unlikely to be made in your country or continent.

Kildemoes bikes were in evidence on the Danish college visit last year...
