Hmm might be worth a wee email to chivvy him along somewhat. They should respond within the month I think so maybe he has a week or two left? When did you first contact him?
Yep Fri 27th is next one and I hope to be free for it

EEN might be sending someone along for some of the ride...
Hopefully it is a cycle minded person that they send

"We had no trouble with them this time they monitored us from afar before approaching the assembling cyclists and telling us that as long as we didn't go through red lights or  obstruct the traffic we were more than welcome to cycle together where we please"

  12. Sadly I will be downing whisky with a friend I've not seen in AGES. Well. Later in the evening I will, but means I've got to get home and get changed and get out again.

I'd say 'next time', but I think we're still on holiday (it'll be 24th won't it?), so my debut is getting into winter! October.

I'm getting bad at this - I'd put it in the diary and everyfink, but but but... At least by the time I make one I'll have citycycling back up and running and so can write up my experiences, whereas I don't have that outlet at the moment (desperately trying to justify myself).

Maybe we should have a CityCyclingEdinburgh fact-finding mission to the next CM then?

My opinion of CM is generally pretty negative, but like anth I've never been on one, so perhaps ought to.

I'm curious to know what happened to the chap who was charged with cycling with a trailer. As someone who's been thinking of getting one, it's news to me that it could *ever* be a basis for getting prosecuted.

Dave - "news to me that it could *ever* be a basis for getting prosecuted." it's not he was arrested for "obstructing the traffic" I think for cycling about in a lane that was, wait, full of cyclists? Hmm I am still waiting for the SNP to find out from the Police Chief what happened to him and I will let people know

    @Dave - yup
@kaputnik - does that mean we would all be there?
@Anth - yes, 24th September Anth, (and you don't have to justify yourself)

the more of us there are the better the chance we can at least push the minimum speed up to 10mph

I think I'd bring the hardtail but can still ride that at 10mph. Any less and I think I'd rather jog!

The lowracer would be a bad thing for CM I feel. If you can get charged for having a trailer, I'd worry that having any sort of "funny bike" might invite the wrong kind of attention...

@Dave on the contrary I think odd bikes tend to get people to chat to you, after all nobody got arrested for riding this and the steering did look tricky to get used to, plenty people got to have a shot

OK, so I heard back from Shirley-Anne Somerville:

"Police not saying much more than the version of events portrayed on the websites I provided are disputed by the officers involved."

(What? So no baton weilding and no "disappear please"?)

"Should charges proceed then the individual will have plenty of witnesses.

LB Police were keen to stress they are happy to deal with events such as this. They appear to have softened their language, speaking of 'Critical Mass' as an 'event' rather than a 'demonstration without permission'.

Although I have not participated myself I am happy to speak out in defence of the cylists who take advantage of the monthly opportunity to cycle in the secure and safe environment of a large group, while drawing attenton to cyclist's needs."

So all in all a good response in my opinion
