These days it's mostly associated with tricks and Trials, Transgression, Saughton and MacAskill.

It used to be a serious racing sport.

    That's how Chris Hoy started.

I think this is the red remnant of the Hunters Hall BMX track.

Now it's an Olympic sport - but nowhere in the east of Scotland to try it or practice.

Anyone/friends/relations involved 'before' or like to see facilities now?

I used to race when I was briefly living in Manchester. I loved it, get a good pump through the rhythm section and there's no feeling like it. I alway said that if I could only do one cycle-sport it would be bmx racing.

One of my big regrets is selling my race-BMX, but like you say I had nowhere to ride it.

It seems not that long ago they built a new track at Musselburgh. I still pass it but I've never seen it in use.

I spent most of my youth at Lochend BMX track in the mid 80s (even after I was 'jumped' and had my bike nicked there once!) It's now a care home for the elderly. Also used to occasionally race with the Scotia guys although was never an official team member. Used to love spending time at the shop on Albert Street.

Funnily enough, mate and I were at Carron Valley MTB trails yesterday talking about Andy Ruffel and Bob Haro, blast from the past!!

Although the track is now open and being well used by local youngsters , the next phase is to improve on what we have , mis-calculations by the architects have left a surface that is not ideal , but with the continued involvement and commitment being shown by The West Lothian Council and Councillors , plus The Broxburn Community Council and The West Lothian Sports Council improvements in certain aspects of the track should be forthcoming . Thanks once again to all who have helped us achieve what we have already .

chdot - had a look at cycling schools. Impressed with the number of bikes. The BMX track would work well with the skatepark next door. I was out at the VAT RUN two weeks ago for a butchers. Great effort by all those involved. I side with Shanade, BMX is the way to go.

Took some Stenhouse and Balgreen children for a visit to Broxburn yesterday.

I think they'll be wanting a track closer to their schools...

Javier at Bike Works rides and sells s few stunt bike frames and extras. Maybe no mass market though.

Often at Crags. Still a scene going on.
