He's a little off track, his route is up the A701 but the tracker shows he is on the A68 just around Lauder! You'll be certain to catch him at the FRB!

From the road.cc article earlier he's actually doing LEJOGLE.

Because once up the country isn't quite hard enough.

Its only fair after all that up hill to get to come back down again. I always though JOGLE was cheating ;D

Looks like he's aiming for the B701 to get across town (the inner-by-pass of Frogston Road, Redford Road, Drumbrae etc). After that, well he was asking on Twitter what the A90 was like - the responses were obviously sufficiently negative about the cyclepath to make him select an alternative route to the bridge!

    Chapeau, anyway.

  7. All 'training' for RAAM '13. That's proper insanity.

His tracker is measuring his average Speed Over Ground in knots. I like it.

He's about to hit a no-doubt very welcome long downhill down off Soutra on the A68. Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Indeed, and that would have me worried. Enough people use that route to suggest it's not a danger, and if he's going for a record, what alternative route could he take that won't delay him significantly?

I suggested going past Cramond Brig on A90, off at the next slip road, then ride Bagshot road to Standingstane road and then left past Queen Elizabeth Yards beofre turning right at the T junction for S Queensferry.

I'd suspect the type of bike and speed of someone going for a record such as this, together with his likely tiredness level, would dictate he's likely looking for a road route, and not a narrow pavement with driveways and bus shelters and 'cyclists dismount' signs.

I guess Kincardine Bridge looks like it would be a big diversion, but then just straight north?

    Hoppo is something else.

Feb 2005: won Sebring 12hr time trial, 249 miles
Mar 2005: LEJoG in 2 days, 10 hrs, 845 miles
    Apr 2005: 2nd place Davis 12hr, 242 miles
    May 2005: won Austrian 24hrs, 472 miles
Jul 2005: RAAM in 12 days, 3052 miles

Then did 369 miles in a 24hr race as a recovery ride, with a busted Achilles tendon.

Steaming along the A701 towards Redford now!

Would be quite good to catch him on the A8 but he's so damn quick that I'd probably be late getting there!

Well I steamed up to thr FRB and waited. And waited... Then I slowly headed off home giving him another 10 mins at the top of the hill in Inverkeithing but sadly I read he got a little lost in Edinburgh and went through after I'd gone...

he got a little lost in Edinburgh

You're not wrong. From looking at his live tracking plots, even accounting for the fact it's only plotting one point every 10 minutes, he must have lost time in Edinburgh, then again on his detour through Kirkliston. That said, he's now in Evanton already!

Ah, I gave clear instructions for him to turn up Standingstane road before the 2nd railway bridge. I guess he was going too fast for the chase car to pass on instructions...

I usually head along further down the A90 and take the B924, then into Dalmeny, when heading for the bridge. Did you suggest taking a left earlier from the A90 so that he'd stay on proper roads for longer?

He tweeted that he was going at 55mph with the car not able to keep up? If he is there in two and a half days and he doesn't need any sleep and he can keep going then if wind stays down he should manage it despite getting lost?

If the live tracking's accurate he's not at JOG yet and he's been riding 3 days and 10 hours so unless he can do the return leg in about 48 hours he's not going to break any records.

Ah, I thought he was two and a half days

It is some feat, the young guy who has the record did 350 miles a day

Aye I read that lastnnight. The record is 5 days 20 somehting hours so there is still a chance that another crack later in the year or next he could beat it.
