The research shows that people from Edinburgh are the wisest when it comes to planning finances and even dressing appropriately for the weather. Despite all the evidence of the tram debacle to the contrary, the research found that Edinburghers are also best at organising travel.

Further evidence of the East-West divide.

Where's the smug emoticon when you need one ?

Roughly ten per cent gap between most and least 'sensible'. Only 18 per cent check forecast before leaving house.

Journalist may have gone for even more cliches than stingy aberdonians if the second 'silliest' city (Glasgow) had been slightly sillier and made it above Bristol.

Nice quote from student calumn who has moved recently to edinburgh from the west. Edinburgh is not like Glasgow, people do not tallk to you in the street but they do wear coats and hats instead of rolled up carrier bags on their heads when it rains (I have embellished his quote).

I vote for Kevin Phillips Bong (Slightly Silly) over Tarquin Finn Tim Lim Bin Ole Biscuit Barrel (Silly Party)

If you're heading straight for the car, then I suppose it scarcely matters. The 18% must be the hardened cyclists and dedicated pedestrians.

    On the other hand:

    Lynne Ramsay, 64

“I think Edinburgh is quite a sensible place. The only way I check the weather forecast is to look out the window, though.”

Which is eminently sensible: the weather can be so localised!

    On the other other hand:

    Craig Rutherford, 31

“I don’t know how you’d quantify being sensible, really. "

Not sure why having a private pension plan counts as sensible, doesn't it usually amount to throwing your money at casino banksters?

Yes that was my thought too.

I liked the person who thought the Edinburgh was definitely more sensible than Glasgow on account of the fact that people talk to you in Glasgow. Shudder etc.

Residents of Newcastle well known for their inadequate clothing. Further proof that the East-West divide only applies to Scotland.

I was in arctic snowy Newcastle for a mid-week conference recently but sadly all the passers-by were in sensible coats - I suppose the skimpy beachwear is saved for weekends.

Yes if not for the Newcastle anomaly, this survey would just be about living in a cold city. Bristol mild, Glasgow mild. Also they talk to you in the street in Glasgow and whilst able to be sensible like a laugh and a drink and spending lots of money on clothes and hairdos
