Just got a reasonably poor response to a complaint relating to this, not the worse driving in the world but I happened to have my camera and you can see the taxi do several things with which I have a problem.
Response said taxi driver was reminded that road safety is of paramount importance and that he should take extra care around cyclists, it didn't seem to acknowledge that the inspector thought that the taxi had done anything wrong.
Anyway, I didn't write a long complaint about why close passes around tram tracks are a bad idea, nor why driving into ASLs is a problem that the taxi licensing should take seriously, I kind of assumed these things would be clear to anyone enforcing driving standards.
In retrospect I think I would have focused less on just stating the facts and more on explaining to the licensing authority why stuff was dangerous, don't assume that it will be obvious to the authorities...
Poor driving by the taxi driver who 'had' to get to the rank before you did. On balance though, given the traffic, it might have been safer to cross one tram rail and stop behind the taxi at that junction, and give yourself a clear run onto Waverley Bridge. I quite often try to use the lead one or two vehicles as a 'battering ram' when navigating bigger junctions. If they're in front of you, they can't overtake you.
Rather questionable positioning of LB no.915, too.
To report or not to bother...
Heading South on Gogar Station Road yesterday I waited in the middle of the ASL for the railway bridge. Don't think it sensed me so I waited. A Taxi comes up behind at what sounds like high speed - the lights change, I set off.
You could hear him come off the throttle but then apply the right foot again and I fear he's going to try to overtake me before the bridge so I look over my shoulder and thankfully he aborted the overtake.
I cycle across the bridge and he's revving his engine behind me. So I stop on the bridge to talk to him and take his photo. He asks whether I need all the road - I say I do - the bridge is 3m wide.
There's only one way to go across that railway bridge on a bike, and that's right down the middle.
Was it either of these two?
(a slightly nostalgic view of the old GSR shortly before all the lumps got ironed out)
@hankchief glad that worked out the way it did, as sounds like a dicey scenario. i had a huge lorry overtake me tonight carrying a fork lift or similar with its forks lolling a little. I had given it a wide berth earlier and dropped it in traffic but just near fountain park I felt compelled to pull in to let it pass as I could hear it thundering. He had given me room but it was not enjoyable
