The anti-cyclist goings-on from some of the inhabitants of Braepark Road I can't dispute. Unfortunately, I dog walk there, and have to listen to some of the diatribes from those who think I will sympathise with them, simply because I am not on two wheels at the time.

Interestingly enough, despite seeing some poor road-positioning by cyclists when I've been down Braepark Road (and I'm down there a lot) the only speeding or dangerous usage has been by motorists, usually residents! And that includes the owner of the silver Porsche (IIRC) who passed too close as we were both going down the hill, turned into his drive and then reversed straight back out in front of me, with only my quick reactions preventing me vaulting over his rear end!
Oh yes, it's the cyclists who are the danger down there...

Raised the lighting issue at the cycle forum (which will hopefully soon be active travel forum), particularly with regard to pedestrians.
Was told that the path is current privately owned (by golf course to north) and that they were unwilling to have any more lighting 'for fear of antisocial behaviour'. I suggested that up light seemed to present more danger of antisocial behaviour.
Since land is theirs, it's their decision (even if council does at present maintain it, improve it etc). If oath is adopted by council, perhaps some rethink of lighting could be made.
Anyone a member of the golf course, who could query the issue internally?

Perhaps it means 'path diverted onto gowf pitch', so the taking of care relates to not getting gowfballed about the head.

Well we are aware that a temporary path is to be laid so I expect they will put the temp path in first before resurfacing the old path?

Nothing new happening here. We did think we'd seen a couple of spade blade imprints on the grass where a couple of cooncil workies had leaned on them, chewed the fat, tutted, sucked in their breath, had a cuppa and then left. Otherwide, nothing happening yet.

Good news indeed, the lighting issue at this location is a matter of health & safety for both pedestrians and cyclists. I fail to see the rationale about anti- social behavior. With increase use, there is going to be a serious accident here eventually either due to poor lighting and/or build up of slippery leaf mulch onthe track, unless it is adequately lit. Comment about its status as a NC1 is spot on.

We saw two Crummock and one Cooncil workies this morning as we headed up the Barnton Golf courses link path. Looks like they may be getting under way?
In their defense my cycle friend said that they may be delayed by the council not getting the permissions until yesterday?

Yeah, they've started. Went through there this morning and there is a gravel bed laid down to the left of the current path at the east end and a blue paint outline on the ground.

First time through there today since they started work. Gravel down most of both sides of existing path, and a digger continuing the trench work for the bedding. I stopped half way up to allow a small tipper to come down. He was starting to do the same for me. Driver most appreciative and I gave him a thumbs up with a fun "As long as you make a good job of it!" comment. Hopefully showing appreciation for their efforts will lead to a good job actually being done :-)

Boyfriend also cycled through there yesterday. Reports work being done both sides of the path but the central (existing) path is still useable.

In order to facilitate surfacing works, it will be necessary to close the path between Barnton Avenue and Barnton Avenue West from the morning of Tuesday 25th March to the evening of Wednesday 2nd April 2014.During the path closure, a temporary diversion route for pedestrians and cyclists will be clearly signed via Gamekeepers Road and Cramond Road South.
A plan of the diversion route will be made available to you next week in advance of the closure.
Apologies for any inconvience that may occur during this closure.

Don't know if the diversion was in place this morning? I came in on the A90, I had forgotten about the thrill of filtering down the middle of two lanes of traffic at speed. :-D

I was once on the back of a motorbike through London.
At one point I was (literally) touching knees with cars on Westway.
I realised the whole 'convoy' was doing about 70mph...

Not in the slightest as of about 0730 this morning.
Insto and I had a converstaion with one of the workers on this very subject as he was closing it as we came up. He said there was signage and I was looking for it as I knew this was happening but we didn't see it at all.

Its an A4 laminated sheet tiewrapped to the pedestrian crossing. Its not at all clear! Who do we contact about this? @West_Team?

@west_team Pls Ask Crummoch Construction to put up signage about Barnton Path closure. 1 A4 laminated sheet tiewrapped is truley inadequate!

I came through this morning, didn't realise it was being worked on until I got to the trenches.
Workies seemed annoyed but what do they expect, since it's not fenced off at the west end, and there are no car-size diversion signs? I'm going at the same speed as the cars, after all - if there was a bit of A4 taped on a lamp post somewhere that's not any good.
Re: the actual work. It mainly seems to consist of hardcore on either side of the original path, and they seem to be doing a bad job of laying artistic brickwork which may end up proud of the tarmac surface.
Not sure I'd welcome the distraction of a high speed bunny-hop if I did this route regularly (think expansion joints on the FRB).

They are recreating these Autistic Bricks at Craigleith too. I think thay are meant as a warning to cyclists to expect an obstruction, like those lines painted on the roads for drivers to ignore.
I saw your commute - respect! Did you not think of taking the path from Newbridge to Kirky? Cuts out that detour along B800 from A89 to Kirky.

Clr A Burns now passing this onto North Team and West team have repsonded. Shame Crummoch are not on Twitter, as its their contract.
Funny, we saw a Crummoch employee yesterday morning as he was about to put up the tiny bit of laminated paper. I suggested they need something much larger. I guess they ignore all suggestions, over saving money on extra signs?
