Oh dear. It might be time to stop acting reasonably and demanding much more, the full 10%.

According to The National, a "Scottish Government spokesman" said it is already investing "more than £1 billion per annum to encourage people out of their cars." So that's all right then.

paulmilne - totally disingenuous use of figures by the SG there. Roughly £200m of that is to fund concessionary bus travel for older and disabled people, £730m keeping ScotRail and Network Rail Scotland running, £50m on bus service operators grant and grants for hybrid buses and about £40m on sustainable travel (including electric cars etc. - not all walking and cycling).

I don't think you can really count keeping the Scottish rail network running as "encouraging people out of their cars".

Disingenuousness? From the SNP? On transport spending?

Gosh, that's never happened before. Ever.

@Morninsider, thanks for the figures, I was wondering where the other £960 million was coming from!

    Yes, it's a non-answer to a direct question.

It's such a blatantly misleading answer that I'm surprised they didn't quote the health and education budgets too. After all if teachers and nurses are at work then they wont be in their cars.

The other thing they have missed with such miss use of facts is that their net position is spending many billions of pounds encouraging people into their cars.
