Also, what happened to the 'leaderboard' chart with all the companies and positions?

As an Edinburgh Cycle Challenge Champion, I'm aiming to bring participation up above 1% for staff at Heriot-Watt this year. We are currently in 13th position with 0.3%, but my department is 3rd overall with 10% participation!

"four people at my work are fibbing"

    Is that a professional judgement?

Why are they fibbing and how do they think it makes you feel?

I need to nag our intranet people again tomorrow.

My commute is normally 20 and the fibbers know that. So they can put 21 in and beat me. But I have been way down to leith twice this week and Musselburgh this morning so they have had to really fib. Anyway, I am doing 97 miles tomorrow

Hello folks, sorry missed all this!

@edd1e_h - yes this is a good point re the high fives. I will pass this on to the development team. They might be able to amend this quite easily. It is definitely good to see who has given you a high five - I got 13 for my weekend ride the other day there (!) and without going through all my emails I can't tell who it was.

The leaderboards are now live! You can now see them on the website. Unfortunately, as challenge champ for my other job we are in fifth place. Think I have a bit of encouraging to do, oh dear!!

RE fibbing - the site is based on honesty so I hope that colleagues are not putting in inaccurate miles or making trips up. Many people sync with Strava, Moves etc so it's not an issue in that respect. But if you're finding people are not being honest then please flag this up to me in an email...

Thanks Claire, I will keep an eye out for fibbing, I am up to fourth so I am hopeful that by cycling everyday I will prevail, despite what others are up to. All a bit of fun and I suppose someone might have a longer commute than me (but then maybe not everyday, I do know a chap who does forty miles everyday but he is not at my work)

"This will mean more to you if you know other CCE'rs real names..."

    Indeed...

I wonder if everyone is happy with the amount of info that is publicly visible(?)

    (Particularly full name + employer/section.)

It does allow you to edit your name to something else should you wish.

For the avoidance of doubt, I don't feature on any of the lists (due to being off the bike for most of the past few weeks).

It's the last week of the Edinburgh Cycle Challenge! I am doing yet another cheeky bump as we come into the final furlong. So far we've had over 1,200 folk log a ride. Prizes still up for grabs include:

    - Gazelle Esprit bike from Hart's Cyclery
    - Revolution Courier bike
    - Edinburgh Festival of Cycling bundle
    - Union Yoga goodies
    - Yoga shop bundles
    - £100 Route Clothing voucher
    - B&B overnight stay - specifically for those that have not yet logged a ride

As well as these spot prizes we have the following incentives:

    - 120 cinema tickets - anyone who encourages a new rider to get on their bike will instantly win a ticket. Any rider that has been off their bike for a year or more and logs a ride will also win a cinema ticket. Cinema ticket info here.
    - Every participant that logs a ride will win a free yoga class. Prize info here.

ALSO, there are prizes for top encouragers, including CTC memberships, £100 Bike Station voucher and lunch for four at Cramond Falls cafe.

Not to mention prizes for top female/male mileage, top new riders and workplace prizes for those at the top of the leader board.

So if you take anything away from this.... Riding a bike = prizes! Register here if you're not already signed up.

Huge thanks to all the CCE forumites who have been riding and supporting the challenge so far :)

I'm logging rides via Strava onto there but I don't seem to be showing up - I've done over 100 miles this month with ought to be enough to get me onto the leaderboard? Or am I doing something wrong? Also does anyone know if it is possible to get your Strava upload to default to "to/from work" rather than "for pleasure" as I'm having to go through and change them all?

@fimm this usually happens if you didn't finish the baseline survey. Can you drop me a line on claire.c@lovetoride.net and I can get this sorted for you :)

Unfortunately the default for Strava is fitness/fun - I have to manually change them all too. Good suggestion to send on to the dev team though. I will flag this up!

    @fimm

Think if you put in your home postcode and your work postcode in Love to ride and your journey goes reasonably directly between the two, it will default to "To/from work".

However, I'm rarely in a rush to get to work and tend to take a more scenic route (when I can get away with it), which seems to throw the default to "fun/fitness".

I had the same problem as fimm with Strava. I tried disconnecting my Strava account and then reconnecting which seemed to kick the system to get it to refresh the data.

I also note that if you select the commute tab on the app, it goes in as "to/from work".

@davidsonsdave This is the best tip ever!! Saves a lot of manual amendment...Thank you.

RE leader boards - if you don't show up on the leaderboard this is usually due to an unfinished baseline survey when registering. Just drop me a line and I can get this amended for you, so you can see your mileage stack up against everyone else. As it happens, I am in 54th position... Must try harder ;)

Are there any spot prizes for the "most engaged champ we have"? I achieved my arbitrary goal of 1% participation for Heriot-Watt University so I'm happy in any case. ;)

@jdanielp - Yes that's your official title from Bristol! We've never had a champ as engaged as you on the site before. Have you managed to bag yourself a cinema ticket yet? If you can encourage a new rider onto their bike (doesn't need to be a colleague) then you're sorted! Also, you've won a yoga class :)

    Another one:

    https://scotland.getmeactive.org.uk/

Run by Sustrans / Transport Scotland this time.

Seems a bit ridic having one on the back of the other - it's like they're competing against each other or something...

I hope this finds you well and enjoying the same beautiful cycling weather we've got down here.

I'm delighted to say that City of Edinburgh Council have agreed to fund the second Edinburgh Cycle Challenge. This will run throughout September as part of the National Cycle Challenge. It will be based on a new points system we have developed to really incentivise recruiting new riders.

The first Challenge in March was a huge success, largely thanks to the fantastic support we received from you and the wider cycling community in Edinburgh, and we'd love to build on that to make it bigger and better this time and see Edinburgh organisations at the top of the national leaderboards.

To that end, please could you publicise the Challenge through your social media channels and, if possible, include the following in any upcoming newsletters, bulletins or other comms:

The Edinburgh Cycle Challenge is back!

All individuals and organisations are invited to take part in the Edinburgh Cycle Challenge. It's a fun, free initiative to get more people cycling. The first Challenge, in March, saw 1,500 people from 119 local organisations take part and loads of prizes - including bikes, vouchers, meals and more - won for riding and encouraging.

This time round the programme is part of the National Cycle Challenge, so Edinburgh workplaces will be able to compete against organisations from across the UK. Find out more and register here: http://lovetoride.net/edinburgh

If you'd like shorter, longer or different copy, please let me know! I've also attached our marketing materials and copied in our two Challenge Managers, Jenny and Barry: please drop them a line if you have any questions or suggestions about how we can promote the Challenge, if you'd like to offer a prize or if you'd like hard copies of the materials.

All the best and happy cycling!

    Jack

I am not manning the challenge this time round, but I did receive a wonderful email from one of the March participants last week who said that after having been off a bike for 25 years, they just did their 1000th mile after the Edinburgh Cycle Challenge got them cycling again :)
