I was up not trespassing on Buchanan-Smith land there and came down beech avenue but third day in row I have had to brake. Today the only 2 other people in the pentlands were walking down oblivious to my impending rush

Meanwhile East Lothian roads are enjoying a spate of top-dressing. Not this one though - this is the road up to the White Castle hill fort (the Nunraw climb). That's not top dressing, that's the remains of the road surface.

Yes lot of whin stone on the road east of aberlady. Was a tad treacherous in the first days but trammled in ok now

@Cyclingmollie, I think that's the road I mentioned in the closed roads thread (http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=20291), although it looks worse that it felt coming down it.
It's signed as closed for a few weeks from February but online shows that the works were stopped indefinitely for Covid. I assume they got as far as scrapping the top off the road before stopping and so it's now unsuitable for a top dressing and needs to wait for the full resurfacing process to restart. At least you can get through though rather than having to divert up Redstone Rigg.

@Cyclingmollie / acsimpson that's impressive... or something. I've come down that road a couple of times, I would not like to do it with the surface in that state!!

I rode the White Castle road uphill at the start of lockdown, can't believe they still haven't fixed it. The bit in the picture isn't even the worst bit, as I'm pretty sure I managed to ride that on road tyres, but perhaps just beyond that there's a stretch where the surface has been removed utterly and there's nothing but large stone aggregate. That had to be walked for me.
Met one of the monks when I was on it too.

More of Seafield Road East has been resurfaced, dealing with a few of the worst ruts but the distinct dips for all the drains outside the car vendors remain. Expect lots of fresh stray particles of stone at the edge of the shared used path.

I do wish they'd stop using that surface-dressing. It solves nothing (except possibly making the road more grippier* for cars) and makes it impossible to see where the now-hidden potholes are.
And we all know what cars do on roads that are grippier - yes, they drive faster...
It also makes the surface rougher at the micro level, increasing rolling resistance for bikes! Arrrgh.

Lauriston St is now delightfully smooth
Yeah, I expect cars will tear along here much faster now, since it's basically a rat-run in combination with Lauriston Gdns / Lonsdale Tce / Leven Tce / Glengyle Tce to avoid tollcross
