@wingpig, you turned up after I left so you missed the fight between Unhurt and Mother of IWRATS. Unhurt loves the parlie building BUT Mother of IWRATS hates it.

Did you miss MOIWRATS noting that any benign Iwratsian dictatorship would ultimately be answerable to her or risk a clip round the lug?

All good governments have checks and bawlances.

I've been informed that the IWRATSian culture police have already locked the Paolozzi sculptures behind bars.

"This concerns everyone in favour of devolution - three quarters of us at the last time of asking."

It's still slightly weird to be able to wander round a parliament building which is there because we voted for there to be one, even if it does superficially resemble an enclosed market in the middle of a residential district in Barcelona.

What a relief. Apparently the event we attended did occur. And there were hundreds of us.

    Several tens of hundreds?

"The group asked people link hands around Holyrood in a symbolic gesture of protection."

No reporting mentioning there were enough people to do that and quite a lot to spare? I see.

I make the perimeter 560m. Shoulder to shoulder you'd need a ten hundred people minimum and we were several deep out the front.

So twenty hundred people at a minimum.

Remember the fish-throwing protest on the Thames was six people.

I think there were thousands of grey pound spenders. Great banter from the old folks, my people. One angry wee wummin was wearing a trilby.

Neither BBC or STV will show any moving pictures of this. I phoned up news desk of BBC but they don't see support for Holyrood as news.
Compare and contrast a few right wing politicians not representing people here dumping fish from a small boat in the Thames. That is news - apparently.
If they say the #HOOP demo is gesture politics then surely Rees Mog and co are just the same thing minus any visible public support. A cosy little elite with money and media contacts.

Crowd was also slightly more mixed than the sea of flags may have suggested.
Obviously when such an event is not 'encouraged' by any mass media reports then DIY takes over.
Girls next to us were students from Wiltshire. Now in the BBC's alternative universe they should not have attended a non 'Brit' event. In fact they had a great time chatting and linking hands and handing out a couple of leaflets for today's pro EU protest. Of course in strict 'self interest' they show the contradiction of paying for FE in Scotland if you are from rUK. Woman on other side though was desperate to get out of EU. Wouldn't it be nice if Scotland could take an informed vote on that based on the needs of our economy?

It's an odd formula that one. I always wonder how the economy expresses its needs and what pain it might feel if they are not met.

@iwrats - yes - Alistair MacIntosh's 'Soil and Soul' was one book that explored these issues.
Western Isles appeared poor when people actually had access to locally grown food - pre 'distribution network' living. Their gdp went up and quality of life went down.

    Another thought...
To be really confusing we could say that Brexit will offer the planet a breather as trade goes down. We also might fly less and goods will be stuck in queues at the ports. #greentories4brexit (!) We could learn to exist on our island with stuff made and grown locally.

I see there was a march to Holyrood today in favour of EU. Hopefully BBC and STV will follow their strict code of impartiality and ignore them!

Very little written on anything mainstream (Scotsman has an article) or pictures.

During the march there were quite a lot of young men taking photographs of the marchers, which - given the lack of press coverage - is rather disconcerting.

BBC and STV do have coverage of the foxhunting march.

@Nelly - BBC could be in breach of public service obligation?
Just listened to Radio Scotland debate 'power grab' and how it affects devolved nations. Commentators from Wales, NI, Scotland. Day by day summary of events including the fish dump. Nothing about the popular protests on Friday and Saturday. It's like the public doesn't exist.
Everyone hangs on utterances of paid commentators. Unpaid opinions are dangerous.

I doubt Special Branch would bother photographing a genial pro-EU demo. All they need to do these days if they really want names is set up a Stingray in a parked car and read everyone's mobile phone numbers as they pass by.

In any case I regard my presence there as a public demonstration of support and a matter of record.

@laidback, re "BBC could be in breach of public service obligation"

I suspect we both gave up on any notion of BBC giving even handed coverage after their performance during Indyref.

@laidback @nelly, see also miners strike 1984, or an other leftist agenda. I believe they also recently emphasised my man JC's bunnet to make it look more like the titfer sported by V I Lenin.

Prof Greg Philo nailed all this back in 1983 - Really Bad News was his book
