@IwratS - I'm somewhat conflicted. A uniform would make it visually distinctive, but we wouldn't look like "normal" people anymore.

I'll opt for "no", but thanks for thinking of it!

Pop t-shirts would be good for the photos! Unfortunately the deadline for getting one in time passed yesterday. I'm sure many of you will have past editions if you don't have this years

I'll be in my black PoP shirt (last year's? year before?).

Ah yes. I have both, but I'm more of a black t-shirt person than blue...

I'll wear the blue one (my own that is).

Hope the event goes well. Interactions in city centre between people on foot are problematic at moment due to narrowness of pavements. Add in vehicles and problems are greater. I'm not going to make it and I think I'd find stress too high and scared I would intervene as traffic infringements here are designed in and therefore very common.
Ideally an intervention will persuade people to respect each other's space. Similar to holding a door open for someone to follow.
In morning rush to work 'any which way you can' prevails and a section of these will be on a bike.

Have you tried standing over them in grim silence?

Thanks to all - everyone safe and with the minimum of agro...

I'm sure there are some good photos out there, and within minutes of our departure, illegal loading resumed!

Good turn out - I estimated 30-40 with plenty of beaming and belling cyclists pedalling along the protected lane.

Deploying 30-40 people to make a bit of infrastructure is a better use of resources than 30-40 milling about with placards. It looked effective and it was obvious what it was about.

When I arrived there was the inevitable white van parked in the lane with hazards....

    Thanks to the organisers.

The flippers. The vibe. The power.

Got called a w**ker by a van driver. Might have been invited to sing backing vocals for @gembo?

    All good.

That was fun. Thanks for organising!

Also as it was (as far as I can remember) my first ever ride around town during the rush morning hour I was really surprised to see so many people on bikes!

@bill - 20% of traffic at that spot is bikes, according to the Spokes counts.

Thanks to Roibeard for organising. The flipper was a touch of manic genius!

Chatted with Councillor Main, who was most impressed.

The demo made two things clear to me:

    1. A segregated cycle lane could be installed in Forrest Road and traffic would still flow.
    2. Illegal parking has a massive impact on traffic flow - I've never seen traffic move so efficiently through Forrest Road. Although it seems to take 40+ cyclists and several police officers to achieve this, possibly difficult to sustain...

@Morningsider, you have named it. 40 cyclists, two police officers on beat one driving polis car round and round and two traffic wardens to move the guy illegally parked on the pavement opposite

Traffic flows fine then. As indeed it would at Roseburn

    The issue is illegal parking

At forest road there used to be legal parking and then the pavement was widened in an attempt to discourage parking to improve flow. Alas the drivers opted for illegal parking instead

So 30 mins of standing in road with police blows all of Pete Gregsons arguments right out of the water.

@IWRATS, I think the invite was as lead singer once I get sacked. You have certain advantages over me as a singer in that a. you can sing and b. you can keep time

band practice is at my house next Friday I will ask the chief accordionist if she wants my replacement lined up before we even get started.

The provisional name for the band is We Travel In Hope (WTIH)all members keen cyclists. All bar one member (me) fairly talented musicians.

Good effort Roibeard and everyone who turned up. That was a fun prelude to the morning commute and it even stopped raining by 9 am as a bonus. Glad to hear that Councillor Main stopped by to chat. It seems that Councillor Miller did not make it, possibly not helped by having been at the pub late following yesterday's branch meeting.

Thanks for arranging this, got to meet some fellow cyclists (I was the one sporting the Ace Bike Co top) and I personally felt like I should participate as I was nearly wiped out by a van driver pulling out without looking a few months back (roibeard actually caught it on camera but I decided it was best not to pursue matters given my volcanic response!)
