    Re Harrison Park feeder

Can anyone remember how long people left HP before the main ride left The Meadows?

From 2019 Facebook event page, 45 minutes.

    Ok

    So, HP ride 12.15?

No. We don't need to get to The Meadows, we need to get to Chambers Street. I assume the best way would be to go to The Meadows, then up Middle Meadow Walk and then run the gauntlet of Forrest Road to get there.

Could we get a people-protected bike lane on Forrest Road, like they did the other year, to help people get to Chambers Street? a sort of warm-up protest/illustration of how removing the Spaces For People lane was a move that puts cyclists in danger?

    Ok

So are also saying ‘longer so leave earlier’?

I assume there will be enough people (not just from an HP feeder) to take most/all of Forrest Road in ‘waves’ from top of MMW.

For those who aren't minded to cycle on Forrest Road, would an alternative be MMW > George Square > Charles St > Bristo Sq > Potterrow underpass > West College Street?

    All things are possible.

I would argue that having done Gilmore Place, FRd wouldn’t be an issue.

As has always been an issue with PoP, there hasn’t been so much thought about ’how people get home’.

Agreed. GP/Kings junction is awful however competent and experienced a cyclist you are.

I suppose an alternative is to turn right off Gilmore Place and go up Leamington Terrace in order to use the signalised crossing at Bruntsfield Links. A lot of hill just to avoid one junction though.

Perhaps the trick is a coordinated blocking of vehicles exiting Tarvit Street, in order to create safe passage out of GP. After all, those vehicles are the hazard.

A previous HP ride went up Spylaw Rd and then through Bruntsfield.

Think there was than a preference for the flatter route.

Police at King’s still a maybe.

Perhaps a wall of cargo bikes at Tarvit St??

Honestly, I think the only way to get a big group of cyclists across the King's Theatre junction is to "cork" it, Critical Mass style. I think Forrest Row could "feel" more unpleasant, but I guess a continuous stream of cyclists would help.

The only way to get into Chambers St from there is to either take the lane in the usual vehicular cycling way or get off on the left and walk across the road.

    Yes

Also I’m assuming that the turn into Chambers St will be appropriately marshalled.

Yes so we plan on having Marshals along from top of MMW all the way to chambers street to assist on ensuring that bikes can move through safely. We'll have police at these junctions as well if we can. If you can get to the Meadows - I'll make sure you can easily get to Chambers street.

If anyone was particularly worried, there is always the ability to go via Bristo Square/Potterrow and then down to Chambers street via West College street, this could be a pleasant alternative. I might signpost this on the day as well.

    Thanks Fimm! Massively appreciated.

Weather still up in the air. I was rather unimpressed with today's 30% chance of rain turning into "heavy downpour in the 1 hour I was cycling around in town" I've had to sit in the office on my jacket to avoid soaking my chair. Only person here soaked to the skin.

We handlebar flyered half of George Square yesterday and ran out of leaflets. Went out today and someone had gotten there before us with fancy printed leaflets!

Not very many bikes around compared to normal.

Saw my first PoP posters out in the wild today - canal towpath chicane by the Polwarth Terrace bridge.
