I can only find one of my overshoes, so I plumped for my rigger boots. Like a fool I tucked my waterproofs into them, which in a downpour turns out to fail hard. Feet would probably have been drier in normal shoes, although my sock habits mean they're dry now.

I don't really mind with my feet so much, as the ride is so short that they can't get that uncomfortable, and then whatever I'm wearing will dry through the day.
Hands get painful fast though...

I had to wring out my gloves and tip the water out of my boots. Worst bit was in the office, bleeding the radiator to dry my clothes and the valve popped out spurting hot water everywhere. Like a good dutchboy I plugged it with my finger until I worked out how to shut off the radiator. Ouch.

I can see I was quite lucky. Having started at 7am it was still 3 or 4 degrees (toasty!), but then a little later it had dropped to near zero. Hopefully it will warm and dry up for the return.

My mudguards have never been any good on standing water, it just pours out from the first bridge onto my feet :(

Aye. I'm pretty sure that's what filled my boots this morning - concentrated spray from the mudguard.

Yesterday on the way home the sunshine I'd enjoyed all afternoon gave way, literally in the time it took me to leave, to a ferocious shower.
Sheltered under one of the bridges on the WoL path with a few others - the street must 'leak' through to the arch below though, as there was a veritable fire hose coming through after a few minutes!

Looking out over the Forth towards the Kingdom, I can see lots of blue and only a few clouds. As my Grans says (and she's an ex tailor) If you can see enough blue to make a pair of trousers its going to be a nice day', then I judge it to be a nice day. This morning wasn't though, I got quite moist on the way in.
hoping it will be fine later on also for my trip hame.

Well, despite forecasting rain every day last week, the total for April is still only up to 5.

Soaked Friday I was!!
Lovely ride to Dalmeny Estate and through a new road I had not yet ridden on to bring me out just up from Bankhead Road (round Leuchold Wood on Google maps) I was basking in bright sunshine and clear but occational cloudy skies. Then like a magic dividing line along the Forth, I could see Fife dark and being soaked with an almighty downpour. As if true to my sad prediction as soon as I approached the north end of the FRB I could feel the rain being blown from the north onto me. Waterproof donned in the bush shelter, I got thoughtly rained on and then again more to stick the boot in through Inverkeithing. I (soaked) decided to continue on to Aberdour as I had an appointment to have new handlebars fitted, and it looked dry on the approach to Aberdour but on entering Aberdour propper it poured down in skip worths (much more than buckets).

Up to 6 so far. We've had quite a lot of rain not-at-commuting-time this week, haven't we, so I hope that holds!

Train delayed this morning (middle bit of commute) and despite a bit of 'flying before the storm' sprinting afterwards I got caught for the last two minutes. Sadly, two minutes was all that was need to thoroughly drench me.

Proper rear mudgards, should be compulsory. Lack of these is disrespectful to others.

I thought advice now was to fit a half guard only on the rear, specifically to reduce dangerous & unasked-for drafting in the busy urban rush hour?

don't draft, as either don't trust the drafted or they are too slow.

Yep, I'd have to say (as someone who does it all the time) that if you're tailgating someone so closely that you can feel their wiper spray, you've only got to look to your own riding for an answer!

Sorry, all my fault, took the winter guards off my road bike and it's hardly stopped raining since. I've managed to use it once...

URGH! Another day when it just started raining as I left the office... the "super surface water" coating on Ratcliffe terrace absolutely finished me off. Need to sort these daft SKS guards.
April 8 ... two more days (4 rides) to go so the record of 9 is definitely up for grabs
And I stripped an axle nut when I got home, stupid SA half axle thing. Grrr.

I was so cold today that I minded. This involves careful planning by the weather, in this case timing a shower with the point I was flyering the bikes in the art college, which took long enough for the heat from cycling there to wear off.
Being in T-shirt and shorts didn't help, I admit - badly underestimated the time it takes to flyer thirty odd bikes.

Yesterday, again, I stayed late at work until it started raining. Third time in a week :(
April now at 9, so if it rains on either one of Monday's commutes we'll have a new record...

If it rains hard at going-home-time I just leave the bike in the bike store and get the bus instead. I have a guilty suspicion that this means I'm not a Real Cyclist. Or maybe it's just that I have the advantage of a secure bike store at work...

Very drizzly on my way to work today. With full-face helmet* if I had my visor down it misted up, plus I had to wipe it clear every two minutes**; with the visor up my eyeballs got full of rain; with the visor halfway up I also got dripped on! At least I was nice and warm, though.
* motorbicycle, thanks to my unhappy knee.
