Thanks PS - sorry you can't come.
Re GPS - I meant my Garmin Legend - which is great for navigation but no so good for measuring performance. I'd probably bring the phone anyway for backup navigation but won't keep the GPS on (the battery will go flat!!).

@Uberuce - just take along a bungee cord and if the legs start to go subtly attach yourself to someone's seatpost.

Don't worry about me - I'll be parking my bike outside various Lake District beer gardens this weekend. Perhaps not as athletic as cycling to St Abbs, but hopefully equally relaxing.

With Amir's GPS and Tom's CPS (Chimney Positioning System) we should be in no danger of getting lost on the backroads of darkest East Lothian.

Well my Garmin 705 GPS is gubbed and due for a return to Garmin HQ for a bit fo TLC. I have a Garmin eTrek which doesn't have maps but does give me speed etc. I'll see about bringing my old paper map.
Kapers, is it just us two meeting at PY? Would it be easier for me to pop by your flat instead?

Think I'm going to throw wind to the caution and sit this one out. Looks Kap's set a luvverly run, though, so if it turns out someone's left their socks at the lighthouse and I've bridged the gap before then, I'll come out to chum you retrieving it.
I'll do Porto-Velo's run on Sunday instead; they seem to centre around the mid-50's for distance, so the HP/Porty run adds an easy dozen.

Next time Uberuce.
Garmin loaded with route (just in case - and extra weight to give me an excuse on the hills). Took long enough - Etrex are pants for downloading tracks - limit of 20 tracks of 500 - the original route has 17000 points - so required so filtering and splitting. #notuserfriendly

Yes, It's going to be hot. I think I'll wear arm warmers or a long sleeve top. Really looking forward to this. Of course if one of our number takes a dizzy turn there's a station in Dunbar :)

It should be great. I have mixed views as to whether a bit of haar would be good, at least to start with. It was a nice tempearture this am for riding but it wasn't particularly pleasant - no view and rather clammy and moist.

Really fancy this ride. Maybe something to do with turning 50 yesterday. Did 45 miles on the new Cross bike yesterday so 105 on the road bike should be do-able (I hope!). I can meet somewhere in Musselburgh as I will be coming from Gorebridge. What time and where in Musselburgh?

Numptie, I've been reconsidering my considered response and I have a plan: if we agree to chum each other home* if either gets bonked and has to drop out then we tick all three boxes of Not Stranded, Not Holding Up The Pros** and Secretly Being Glad Of The Break.
I'm game if you're game?
*I'm in Edinburgh and you're Gorebridge, but given the context of the ride, the last wee solo bit is pretty trivial
**Who are lovely and would gladly be held up rather than see us drop, but that doesn't mean I want them to have to.

Sounds like a plan. Got the bike and some essentials ready this afternoon so I am ready to go once I have have had breakfast. A large bowl of porridge should provide fuel for the first couple of hours at least. So what time and where to meet?

That was a bleedin' stoopid thing for me to have attempted. Things were going okay until mile 90, at which point the singlespeedness of wee blue floofy caught up with me and I started running out of juice. Ten miles later and I had to throw myself at the mercy of the pros, who luckily for me have lots of mercy, so the pace from then on was slower than I think they'd have liked, but was something I could handle.
Sorry/thank you, guys.
Rolled into my street with 120.73 miles on the clock.
Got my new distance record, first metric century, first Cycling Of The Beast and first imperial century.
The scenery and wee towns we rolled through were, in cahoots with the weather, ridiculously pretty. Arthur's Seat even had the decency to put on a Jean-Michelle Jarre styled smoke and light beams effect, as the sun picked out a shaft of haar nestling in a crook of the peak.
But I've finished eating sausages now, so photos and further write-up's just gunna have to wait. Shower and crash, oh yes.
