  1. I went to a formal dinner at Magdalen College, Cambridge back in 2000 (friend from school went there). All by candlelight, and really quite horrible canteen food. Have never felt so out of place in my life (and bearing in mind my profession I've found myself stuck with many a golf-playing Mercedes driver).

At our most recent monthly departmental motivational nonsense, as a 'bit of fun' at the beginning, we had to move places until we were sitting next to someone we hadn't spoken to yet this year. Enforced proactive gregariating gives me the heebies.

@wc with the exception of those (rare) high tables mentioned above we only ever ate in hall after a seminar (mainly because food was indeed dire), but that at least meant you had something interesting to talk about/interesting people to talk to. (also No candles; no gowns)

It was hall food that introduced me to such things as the cheeseburger with the cheese already in a pocket in the burger and the sausage with a perfect stripe of mustard pre-packed in the core. Also what I believe the Americans call a tater-tot.

@SRD which college were you at?
Thank-you all for good wishes. I'm still in bed :-(

Great to see everyone - get well soon fimm.

View of the table in background. Bit rubbish photo on phone but WC can be made out. Also Christmas lights on the LB Fuego which is the kind of thing that brings recliners into (more) disrepute. For those that got a Velo Vision mag do read the bit about load bikes in Gothenburg and why electric cars can never solve our energy mix. Will post the facebook page up later.

Just back from cycle with Dave up Torduff way! Something about this time of the year that makes you glad to get home!

Last year's XMas event at PY

THis year 26/12/14 was suggested by our Supreme Leader

However, as this is possibly a day some people cannot make perhaps we should not follow the rule so strictly and make it 19/12/14. I still have the jelly for IWRATS in a Christmas Kilner Jar following kindness after the pub.

My bike is leaning against the glass. I can make out The WC and The Smudge through the door

    "THis year 26/12/14 was suggested"

    No it wasn't.

I was merely pointing out the date of the last Friday.

Implicitly that is unlikely to suit many people.

I also assume that PY will probably be shut.

Going on last year's instructions (ie "As it's that time of year, silly hats are optional") it seems I've been doing this PY thing wrong. Silly hats mandatory except at Christmas time!
