Dim-witted article by Kevin McKenna. The usual stuff, ticks just about all the boxes I think.

He is executive editor of the Daily Mail.

    Ergo an idiot.

It is kind of hard to respond to something so incoherent. I assume this article was written after some city based "drinking seriously", possibly while discussing the good old days when you were allowed to chant foul mouthed bigotry at football matches.

Interesting that he considers jogging, cycling and healthy eating to be unreachable middle class fripperies for real Scots - but car ownership and attending football matches are not.

I was recently surprised to find that opera is much cheaper than football.

Cheap seats in the Theatre Royal are £9. Even Thistle costs more than that.

I think the article is meant to be satirical? He admits to a pedal himself. He wants bikes out of the city and when they are on country roads he doesn't want segregated lanes. So he is presumably a diehard driver.

Unfortunately, his ranting tone hides a serious point. We all see the benefits to health of cycling. But the underclass do not. Therefore how can we address The cost to the nation of obesity, lack of vegetable eating (except pots) drinking buckfast, lanliq, four crown, eldorado and other British sherries/ tonics whilst paying ten pounds for twenty tabs!!!!???

Orwell proposed raw vegetables, brown bread and temperance. That won't work. methadone, Ribena and Totov Vodka much more anaesthetising

Why is my beloved Guardian running this nonsense? Time to abandon newspapers - I hate them all now.

I'd congratulate him on a job well done in trotting out every anti-cycling line in the book... Except he missed the 'road tax' argument. Go to bottom of the ranting journo class, Kevin.

"Kevin, can you give us 500 words by 6pm? Clarkson-style today, mate. Need to mix things up a bit to get a few more hits on the website."

    "Sure. No problemo."

This article reads like "controversial" clickbait. It's getting a total slagging in the comments.

One comment said "It's only plausible as parody".

I have to agree. Surely the author of the article doesn't actually think this?
