As the title says, anyone got a ukulele they don't use/want?

Smudge minor *loves* music and especially guitar and ukulele, but at 15 months his technique can be a little hard on the instrument! So I'm looking for a cheap one he can play with, (or a nice one I can play with and he can abuse mine lol)

    Thanks all :-)

The "Thrift 2" shop on Gilmore Place had one on Sunday (or was it Monday?) afternoon when I had a browse. Missing 1 string, sure it would be cheap enough and perfect for his needs.

You can buy new 'cheap' ones that play OK for around £20.

My toddler has one and he loves it.

They are amazingly robust too - he has smacked it off the floor many times and it's still good, albeit a few chips...

  7. As it happens... Yes... (as long as he likes yellow...)

Would strap easily to the Carradice one day - even have the box - and could arrange a handover, cos we're good at those...)

Thanks chaps for all the input :-)

@WC unless there is a PY before then we could maybe arrange to rv at POP? B-)

Will Smudge be knocking out some ukelele protest songs at PoP then?

  11. I'll bring my harmonica along and together we can be some sort of dual cycling Dylan...

I'd bring mine, but you'd all find out rapidly that "extraordinary rendition" does mean torture.

I'm lucky I have patient neighbours

    And thick walls.

@Eddie, sounds familiar, let's just say we're in a detached house for a reason ;-))
Does "When I'm cleaning wondows" count as a protest song?!? (Even in the UOoGB Russian version!)

I bought my teenage daughteronenfornherbirthday, from the shoppeninngrassmarket. It was NOT cheap but it is the Concert style by the company LAG and was the cheapest proper one they had. They let me take the bike in and I panniered it home. It has a lovely sound and she plays it a air bit.

Yup, I came to Uke's by chance (looking for a more portable alternative to a guitar for entertaining/distracting baby), I had assumed they were just "toys", I was however pleasantly surprised to discover that they are easy and fun to play around with and can sound lovely, not just George Formby or aloha cliches (nice though some of that is). Then I chanced on the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain online and was hooked :-) A "proper" musical instrument disguised as a childs' plaything. Much fun :-)
I'll have to learn to play the blooming thing properly sometime instead of just noodling around!

Actually, if we had any willing skilled wordsmiths, and a bold and extrovert player/singer, "Our Sergeant Major" (Formby) could probably be re-worded into something cutting and witty about "Our politicians"... Any volunteers? :-))

Wilmington's Cow is a skilled wordsmith. I'm not sure how his singing is, but Ruggtomcat is certainly a bold and extrovert player!
