As mentioned (OT) in another thread when Midlothian dropped off the shortlist.

Home? In what sense would Edinburgh be "home"? (Apart from the Three Lions sense in which football came 'home').

Perhaps in the sense that Edinburgh is home to most things 'national' in Scotland: galleries, museum, library, monument, parliament, etc. It's the capital, dontcha know?

Probably. It was that sense of entitlement that grated with the Skinner and Baddiel ditty too (although that was lessened by the certainty that there was no chance on earth of football actually coming home in the way that they hoped).

A MAJOR hotel, conference suites and tennis courts are among the plans being drawn up in a bid to win a race to house the National Performance Centre for Sport in Edinburgh’s south-west.

In view of the current moves over Waterworld and years of rundown/dithering over Meadowbank it would perhaps be better if CEC backed away from new and shiny.

Judy vows to build Murray Tennis Centre for Scotland

Suspect Andy Murray has made more from his sport than Chris Hoy, so may be able to put some cash in, but it does show that however high profile a sport of physical activity is (eg also swimming) it often doesn't get enough funding/facilities.

    Unless it's football/golf.

The new National Performance Centre for Sport will be built in the parkland setting of Heriot-Watt University’s extensive campus in the west of the city. It will feature a Hampden replica pitch, an outdoor synthetic pitch, four outdoor natural football and two rugby pitches, nine court sports hall, a 3G indoor football pitch and a fitness suite, and world class facilities for sports science and medicine all linked together by a spectacular sports promenade.

But no cycling facilities? What's Scotland's most successful sport in terms of Olympic medals won in the last decade or so? ;-)

"One of the stops of the £776m tram line – Edinburgh Park – will also be less than two miles from the campus."

That's convenient. It should be easy enough to walk along the bypass.

It's okay, these guys are athletes - the two mile jog will be part of their warm-up programme.

And the lack of any actual oxygen in the air is sure to strengthen their lungs too.

Surely it's walkable/cyclable from Curriehill station though eh? Heavy rail comes out top again.

(Mind you they're only every hour; every 2 hours on Sunday).

Let's face it all the sportsters will be piling into their cars...
