Jeez, that sounds awful - thoughts, as usual, with the family.
These things always have a strange psychological impact. I don't go that way often but will likely avoid it for a wee while.

I don't see the point in avoiding a place where someone has died, or been injured in an incident. I think stats prove these incidents don't cause any further incidents to happen in the following days/weeks after it.

Didn't say it was rational. There is absolutely no point in doing it, but I do it all the same. When a chap on a bike was killed just outside Dalkeith when I lived out that way I took an alternative longer and hiller route for about a month afterwards. Same as when a guy on a bike was killed on Clerk Street/Nicolson Street - it was my regular commute, and it gave me the shivers the couple of times immediately after that I rode that route, so I avoided it for a while.

My thoughts go out to the family and freinds in these sad incidents. Its awful loosing someone.
Its not nice when someone dies locally and worst still if someone close to you dies. Unfortunately it happens and we come to terms with this eventually, in our own way.
I have just developed a certain outlook on life having lost a few close freinds preamturely in the last ~13 years. We remember the happy times and how enriched our lives are for having known the person.
Personally what gives me the shivers though, is winter... brrrrrr!!

I am very surprised at the unusually blunt headline on the Scotsman website. Usually, we get the 'cyclist was in a collision with a vehicle' phrase, which I hate.

Have a friend who motorbikes, passes through there now and again....I now have a pit developing in my stomach as there's a chance it might have been him. Slim chance but it makes you think. Whoever it was, condolences to the family, worst part is knowing that he/she set off as normal for a ride/commute, and if they'd been 10 seconds earlier or later it might never have happened.

It's a horrible feeling. There was a cyclist killed in Aberdeen a while back, the description of whom matched my brother perfectly, and I couldn't get him on his phone. Got him eventually, but there was an hour or so of worry.

I rode through there about 40 mins before this. It was very busy as usual with traffic and people. Its hard to understand how such a serious accident happened with the traffic going so slowly.

It's relatively rare to hear about someone being killed on a stretch of road with a 20mph limit, isn't it?
Oh, Holyrood Park? Ah, as you were... >:-(
