  1. Chavanel fined yesterday for littering. There are zones after feed stations where you are supposed to dispose of rubbish as they are then swept by a cleaning crew, but he disposed of it after the end of the zone.

Given the chap got kicked out for being 7 seconds outside the cut off time in the team time trial, and Tony Martin (I think) got fined for world champ stripes on his bike, the organisers are being uber-strict this year!

"the organisers are being uber-strict this year!"

    They just like the controversy...

Maybe trying to avoid the embarrassment that 'the bus incident' was probably due to someone (not the bus driver) ignoring a rule - or the fact that they hadn't made a rule to deal with late running buses(!)

  6. Well you gave away that it wasn't a breakaway and that it came down to a sprint finish...

    (p.s. not what I wanted...)

Unless its a single guy isn't every ride a sprint finish?

I'm new at this watching cycling on telly gig! Sorry. (again ;o)

In these early stages the real nail biter is whether the breakaway gets caught or stays away. I'm *always* on the side of the breakaway, doesn't matter who it is.

I forgot I wasn't supposed to be on twitter and heard who won today, better head off to the spoilers thread

While they slog their way up to the top, here's Britain's Chris Froome - the pre-race favourite - with a few words on the opening week: "It's been stressful but good, As a team we've come through it really well and we are in a great position. I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the mountains."

On Team Sky team-mate and BBC Sport columnist Geraint Thomas, who is riding with a fractured pelvis, he added: "He's still puling his weight and doing his job. Each day he is felling better and I expect him to get to the finish."

Here are our four leaders today. They are still leading by a touch over eight minutes - that first mountain is very much looming into view and they will be hitting the bottom of the Col de Pailheres in the next 30-40km or so.

The peloton is pedalling along at 42km/h - how do I know? They've just gone past a speed camera which was flashing the number up in red. No speeding now boys. I'm sure I just saw Geraint Thomas up towards the front of the peloton a moment ago. If I did, then the Team Sky rider with the fractured pelvis is going along very nicely today.

might be relieved that we are only spending two days in the Pyrenees this year - the second is coming right up tomorrow and if you thought today was tough...

...we have a classic day in the mountains that separate France from Spain. The 168.5km race starts in Saint-Girons and takes in four category one and one category two climbs. There is no summit finish though - a 30km descent from the top of La Hourquette d'Ancizan to the finish in Bagneres-de-Bigorre will test the descending skills to the limit.

As I absorbed the highlights, I found myself gobsmacked at how fast the riders were flying up the climbs yesterday. Especially the chap who held the lead for much of the climbing: incredible!

Then we saw a certain team just take over like a hurtling juggernaut. Impressive! Will they extend their lead tomorrow or will other teams attack?

Riders are all over this first mountain - if it was carnage in Corsica - this is pain in the Pyrenees. The average speed of Jeannesson on that climb was 24.4km/h and it has blown this race wide open. Froome has finally found a team-mate - and it's that man Richie Porte. Breath easier everyone.

Watching Cadel Evans rise the time trial. Comentator said he wan't to keep his heart rate down so he doesn't produce too much lactic acid, so will be keeping it between 175 - 180 bpm...

Blimey Charlie!! Isn't that near max heartrate?

Overall, the data suggests that the performances on AX3 fell within a range that could be expected for a relatively clean peloton with the exception of Froome. His performance on AX3 is clearly flagged as an outlier and warrants healthy rationale skepticism.
