Does this sign still just say Hello?
What is the point of putting up a sign saying hello?
Entrance maybe, but that is further up the street and would helpfully say entrance only
Is there another sign at the exit saying Goodbye?

I emailed the Sheriff Court about their making no mention of cycling in their travel information.
But what annoyed me more (and also mentioned in my email) was that when claiming travel expenses, using a taxi is acceptable, but claiming for a bicycle requires justification (why didn't you use public transport?). Apparently a taxi is public transport.
I'm not claiming any expenses - just complaining.

Also bad is the whopping great sign at the entrance which restricts sightlines for peds crossing the car lane. It obscures from view any cars coming for the west, which ain't great.

Result!? Just had this reply from Tesco Customer Services. :)

I have now spoken to Claire, Duty Manager who has advised that the store are already aware of this and it is being investigated and will definitely be moved.

@cb.pola (and anyone else who has had a similar email) could suggest a wider review of the whole area and point out that Transport Convenor Leslie Hinds has told the CEC Cycle Team to make contact.

Back to the Royal Highland Showground. ..
I duly turned up at Gate 1 - East entrance as requssted and asked the steward for the secure bike parking and....
Surprise surprise, he didn't know where that was.
He was very helpful though and let my lock up the tandem just inside the fence using the fence posts for my locks and he kept an eye on it for me.
Needless to say ours was the only bike there when we returned as well, but can't be a surprise if they don't advertise it.
I'll feed this back to RHS.

@Everyone who has had an email advising Tesco sign will be moved - I started it and didn't get one! :-(

@BenN - I didn't get one either. I put that down to my forthright language... I still can't believe their policy of a complaint threshold for H&S issues.

Indeed. It's just the pointlessness of democratising something that really should just be done through common courtesy to check the complaint is valid and then common sense to get it fixed.
It felt like they were treating it like a request to stock a very particular brand of cheese or something rather than a health & safety issue.
In this day & age of social media, what did they expect BenN to do when they told him they need a certain number of complaints to be taken seriously. He's either going to grumble to himself and put up with it or he's going to make a fuss and find other interested parties to join his complaint - which as proven isn't that hard on the interweb. It just puts the onus of the complainant to push it through, when it really should be them.
Couldn't see the same thing happening if you pointed out a puddle on the floor that someone could slip on, so why in this case.

Apparently sign isn't supposed to be where it is.

A good spot (and a reprieve for the planning department!). Looks like the offending 'Hello' sign is supposed to be part of a larger barrier installation where the road rises about 1m above the cycle path on the approach - no danger to anyone there. The location it has been sighted at is noted on the plan as D9, which should be a nice little pedestrian and cyclist sign pointing them to the store!
Kind of makes you wonder though, how often are plans that are approved just completely ignored by the companies in the final build - and whether any inspection actually takes place?!?

There have been plenty of instances where CEC hasn't 'checked' and also where planning permission wasn't detailed enough to make enforcement possible.

I am disappointedthat this seems to be 'the responsibility of the local store'.
Tesco should be more interested in how its customers get to its stores.
A considerable number walk and cycle to this store (and presumably other ones) the connection between the path network and the store's grounds is unnecessarily restricted - there is a long common border and a desire line through a hedge.
Improving this should lead to more customers. (People on foot/bicycle tend to shop more often too.)
If people choose to walk/cycle instead of driving there will be less (expensive) wear to access road and car park.

Turned up at Bruntsfield Medical Centre today and was fuming because of not even a convenient lamp post to lock a bike up to. Nothing in the extensive staff car park. No railings either and the entrance sign had wooden legs so wasn't going to bother.
Found a parking restrictions pole further down the street that would accept a D-lock without bike blocking pavement.
Got inside the front door to find out they've got dedicated cycle parking inside, with lengths of pole on either side for locking bikes to!

Yeah, the Bruntsfield Medical Practice is pretty good for bike parking. You could maybe subtract a point for it not being obvious from the outside although their website does mention the details (which is what this thread is about)

Agree with you here SRD. Plenty bikes but actually getting to them through the car park is a chore of badly-parked vehicles and involves turning down Holyrood Park Road and fighting off the vehicles that immediately try to pass you as you try and move across to the right hand side of the right hand lane to make the turn.
There's oodles of pavement space and it wouldnt' take much imagination to create a safe bike entrance of the sort on Bruntsfield Place at the end of Leamington Walk.
"World class" sports facilities with parochial thought given to how people get there. Judging by the contents of the café, Edinburgh Leisure's health-and-fitness remit clearly does not extend between when you arrive and pay your entry fee and then leave the changing rooms on the way out..
