  1. Looooovely new Crane Suzu bell. Okay, the hand painted one is an expensive extravagance, but also available in a few different plain metal finishes. Te striker is on a very stiff spring. Dings beautifully, but only when you want it to.

  4. I will be very selective as to who gets dinged...

Got to use it properly this morning. Kiddie being dropped off on Melville Drive into the bike lane. Plenty ahead of me, but I know they weren't looking before getting out because the girl then proceeded to walk down the cycle lane away from me.

    Two loud dings. Lane cleared.

I've just bought a new bell too. It was really hard to find one online. In the end, I got this off Amazon

...which is made by these people.

It's large and round and black. As the name suggests, it doesn't go 'brrrrring', but instead a mellifluous and low-toned 'ding dong'. My only objection is that it's a bit quiet, but it sounds lovely. It seems very solid indeed, and, dare I say it, much as you'd expect given its country of origin.

    Other colours are available.

My bell has the distinct disadvantage of refusing to ding whenever it rains. It would be perfect in somewhere like Malta.
