"Cycling has never been more popular"

I wish people would stop saying this. It is lazy wishful thinking and demonstrably false, and only makes the task of making it actually true more difficult.

  5. For popular read trendy - makes more sense that way. It was more popular back in the day, as in more people were on bikes, but that was because there weren't as many cars, there were local shops, people didn't live so often in distant enclaves etc. What we have now is that cycling has achieved a certain level of 'cool' and so is being picked up by the media slowly but surely (the blog itself being evidence of that).

"Gone are the days when cycling was solely the territory of Lycra-clad wiry bods"

It never was. Or if anything the lycra-clad wiry bods are actually more numerous now than they ever have been, for many of the reasons mentioned in the blog itself (Brad's Tour win; Olympic success; British champs).

It is very noticeable that there are people cycling in Glasgow nowadays. Used to just be gangs of gnarly bearded roadies and my small womens club going out at the weekend or evenings. A few students cycled. That was about it.
