yes I remember I used your feedback as part of my formulation

CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

@gembo Today's 'Polish transgender person on a bike with shopping bags' monologue featured Bolsheviks. What I got was "... is a Bolshevik. A Bolshevik...".

The first time i passed I wondered who is this shouting so googled and brought up some you tube. Can make sense sometimes.
Fair play to Katherina for being true to herself, but I'm quite glad my commute hasn't yet intersected with her travels.
@bill, any mention of Mensheviks?
Mr Bill says that the towpath around Harrison Park was closed at around 5pm today with fire trucks and lots of rescue folks around -- looked like someone fell in canal.
Anyone seen anything?
@bill, I saw nothing and must have passed by about then. Mind you I was concentrating on the frost/ice on the path as it was getting very dark and I only have one collar bone left.
Meanwhile I ran into Katerina on the aqueduct earlier. Not literally. I came up behind her as she navigated past a mother and buggy who was coming into down. Once passed, a jogger passed me and then struggled to pass Katerina who was walking across the aqueduct. As I was right behind her when we reached the other end I got one of her outpourings.
@gembo Overheard in today's 'Polish transgender person on a bike with shopping bags' monologue "...little flower...". Sorry, that's all I managed to catch. Seems that I might be getting the nicer bits of the monologues.
I encountered them at the Wester Hails S-bend and they actually waited until got through it -- that was nice.
I think mini-Srd* and I may ahve encountered the pusher-inner this morning. We were heading west a bit after 9, and seeing a well-laden bike heading towards us, we paused and leaned against the railings. Then she stopped and gestured to mini to go past. She did with no problems. I then explained that because I have poor balance, I would stay where I was. At this instant I suddenly thought ‘oh no’, but she came past me without any problems, but was definitely, mumbling intelligibly as she went past.
*now that mini-srd is taller than me, I think we may need to start using her alter-ego ‘cyclingmanic’....
"Last night three cyclists were pushed into the Union Canal as they cycled near to Murrayburn and Wester Hailes.
We're looking to trace the group of youths responsible and would ask anyone with information to come forward via 101."
Yikes. Luckily I was on a half-day yesterday so cycled back into town at around 1 pm.
Sounds awful! This is actually the stretch of the towpath I still use now to get across the bypass. I was there around 6pm yesterday but didn't notice anything extraordinary.
That stretch of the towpath is very popular with groups youths during school holidays. They quite often try to scare me but apart from one incident* nothing too dangerous has happened.
* In Nov 2016 (before I joined the forum) a group of youths were throwing sheets of ice from a bridge above the towpath. They threw one at me but luckily it hit the ground right in front of my front wheel. I remember there was a cyclist right behind me and he stopped, shouted at them and asked if I was OK. Funnily enough that bridge is right next to the Police station on Dumbryden Dr.
They got a work colleague. He says that he was physically unhurt (his helmet took the punch), but they caused £100's of pounds of damage to bike wheel, laptop and stuff.
@IWRATs - when your signing hand has recovered, please will you line up three sets of stakes and ravens. I'm thinking Hailes Quarry Park would be an appropriate place.
I'm not going to let this incident outweigh 10 (reasonably, and comments upthread notwithstanding) uneventful years of commuting on the towpath.
@Greenroofer, you say three, but article doesn't mention the number, was this from your colleague? Reason I ask is that last trip home along the canal, I passed a group of 3 at H.Quarry Park who I kept a close eye on, shall we say, and I would recognise them again.
@Snowy - Sorry: my mistake. I'd picked up the 'three' from the police press release, but it was actually the three who were assaulted rather than the three perpetrators. https://www.scotland.police.uk/whats-happening/news/2019/march/appeal-after-cyclists-targeted-in-edinburgh
@IWRATS you may need some more ravens (or fewer) possibly.
@Greenroofer
As you know I'm very fond of the canal and its community.
A gang taking advantage of the unwary there merits one raven fewer. The rest of them can then watch and anticipate their own fate as the bird feeds on its first victim.
The location remains unchanged: the summit of Ben Alder. The walk in is part of the process as is the reassurance that they will collected and returned to safety the next day. It's a lie of course.
Scottish Sun is carrying the story.
They say a gang,

@Rosie no effort expended in the use of stock imagery I see.
I spotted police patrolling the towpath yesterday at around 5:30 pm.
Just clicked on the Scottish Sun link. The adverts included Five Ten bike shoes, two different Rad e-bikes and a Stages Ultegra crank-arm power meter, none of which I think are usual for the normal demographic of Sun readers.
@greenroofer - adds are heavily personalised, targeted on whoever is viewing the page. I got ads for RC cars, a kettle from Amazon and a front rack.

"FURTHER ATTEMPT TO PUSH CYCLIST INTO UNION CANAL
We are again appealing for witnesses after another cyclist was targeted on the Union Canal cycle path.
At around 5.20pm on Wednesday 8th May, a male cyclist was travelling along the canal path at Murrayburn Drive when a girl attempted to push him into the canal..."
Several towpath users on the work Bicycle User Group are reporting concerning interactions in the Wester Hailes/Sighthill area of the towpath with an older man wearing a grey tracksuit and accompanied by an unrestrained Jack Russell (although it's not the problem). All have happened in the past fortnight or so.
I personally had him shout 'You might slow down pal' at me while I was passing slowly. While he mainly seems to have a thing about people on bikes, one person reports that they were out running and he threatened to stab them.
All the interactions have been verbal so far, but one to keep an eye open for.
I can't find it now but I saw a report on one of the Meadows groups on Facebook about a female cyclist being pushed in the canal last night. It didn't sound like 'our canal pusher-inner'. The person who witnessed it reported it to the police.
sorry bill! didn't see your post/thread.
