I'm on holibobs on the 26th July, so this Friday would be better for me too.

This Friday morning I will be riding the big bike to Livingston. I will think of you all as I sweat my way up the Lanark Road. ;-)

I will try to remember not to plan a long commute for the 26th :-)

If this Friday is a go(?) then I might like to come along for a first visit. I'm looking at purchasing my new steed (very excited even at the thought) and have been thinking about a cyclocross so would be spiffing to see/hear a bit more.

If this Friday is a go

As far as I and SRD are concerned, it sure is!

There's a jar of jam in it, so that might be an idea. I have to be gone by 825 at latest. Will be there from 730 or there aboots.

ETA 0730 for me. I have a matter of honour to settle with Kaputnik. *ominous music*

Wait. That's poor wording and the wrong music. What I mean is I'm going to buy Kaputnik a coffee and a bun. *even more ominous music*

I'll bring my Croix along so gdm and/or StepRam can kick the tyres.

I'm also going to sack my soundtrack coordinator.

I think it may take a wee bit of explaining to the missus when I tell her I'm going to PY on MMW to kick a Croix.

Yeps. Many of the regulars are going to be at the pet shop buying food for their tiger* so it looks to be a smaller turnout than usual, but it's on.

    *I'll explain tomorrow.

I'm going to try and fix some rattles and bring the shiny mudguard bike. Failing that it will be the home made crossmachine

Unless PY opening at 6, afraid not. However, leaving work at 1.30 so not too shabby a day.

Apparently it won't be a smaller turnout than usual, since we filled two outdoor tables and that was with DaveC and I standing by our bikes and talking to StepRam and gdm as if we knew what we were talking about.

Ah thanks Bruce, I had forgotten to ask that fourth chap what his username was. Nice to meet new people, and put faces to names.

Good to meet everyone - couple of people I've met very briefly before so chars for hospitableness.

It was good to be able to ask my incredibly stupid and simple questions without fear of facepalm/head-shakes of disbelief.

Reckon I've made my choice of bike options - or at least whittled it down to two models. Possibly three.

Thanks guys was great to meet you all and have a good chat with you all and get some great advice from Uberuce, DaveC, chdot, meepmeep and others who's name I have missed 9not good with names at the best to times.

The gent in the red shirt (pictured above, who's name I can not remember), made a great comment about doing lots of research and still not getting it 100$ first time and I think your very correct. I am almost ready to make a decision. now its just down to specific bike models ..... but it is going to be a cyclcorss with a rack and ortlibs ...

Thanks again for being such a welcoming and helpful bunch.

Oh I forgot to mention, I took a sneek peek at Kappers new mudguards. Lovely is a work that springs to mind. Did you get them from Freshtripe Kappers? I like the stippled affect, a bit like a golf ball which is that patterned shape so it flys further. Is this can cycle further? ;O)

Dave yes they are the Velo Orange guards, from Freshtripe. They're a bit more than chormoplastics pricewise, but not outrageously so.

Two parts of the fittings are clever and easy to deal with (the single stay, attached by a single bolt, and the R-clamps that attach the stay to the dropout.

The mountings at the fork crown / seatstay boss, on the other hand, were nothing but stress and tears. In reality I think they've been designed with forks for balloon-tyred American randonneur bikes in mind, with a large drop from the brake boss to the tyre and a lot of room between the fork legs. None of the 3 supplied mounting options came close to working, so I had to drill the rivets out of my old Chromoplastic mounts and use them, which involved alsodrilling the fork.

I had to drill the rivets out of my old Chromoplastic mounts

I do that as a matter of course with SKS, partly because attaching mudguards at seatstay and chainstay bridges using zip ties avoids rusted bolts, and partly because all the rivets corrode like mad in our winter weather.

Nice to see the mk3 Moulton, too.

    @stepram

THat was me in the red shirt (£28 merino icebreaker from Leckies of Falkirk but u need to be size medium as Mr Leckie bought 1000s of mediums and has sold most of them). Your research has been thorough but as i said it is very rare for us to get our bike selections 100% so no need to beat ourselves up about it. (Can always wait some time then buy another one or modifY)

@kaputnik - I also meant to say how snazzy your mudguards looked.
