Last month whilst cycling through Dalkeith, the driver of a large jeep passed me very closely. I threw up my arm at him, but did not gesticulate. He then stopped his vehicle and stopped. I was stopped at a pedestrian crossing, and clipped in!

He came right up to me shouting, swearing and behaving in a highly threatening manner. Fortunately, a small crowd were gathering, attracted by his noise. He accused me of holding him up, and wasn't listening when I tried to explain that he needed to give cyclists more room. The presence of the crowd seemed to deter him from carrying out his threatened violence, and he drove off.

Some of the crowd kindly volunteered their names as witnesses and I reported the incident.

The Police were very helpful, and kept me informed of developments. And yesterday, I received a message that he'd been charged successfully with breach of the peace.

Hopefully, he'll show more regard to vulnerable road users in future.

    Cheers

    Reeeesult!
Shame there wasn't a driving violation thrown in there for good measure.
He still probably thinks he did nothing wrong bar the the shouting.

"He accused me of holding him up"

But obviously he wasn't in such a hurry that he could stop to get out of the car to threaten you....

    Colin,

An unpleasant experience but thankfully for once there's been a positive resolution.

    "amazing! well done."

Yes, seems 'out of town' police actually deal with complaints(?)

Edinburgh polis now "E" Division of Policescotchland®

Lothians* and Borders now "J" Division.

*assume this is Easts and Mids, with West being in "Forth Valley" or "C" Division.
