Driver admits death by careless driving, denies dangerous driving?

Similar sentiment to the accident/incident terminology debate that cropped up here a few months ago. Careless driving suggests accident ("whoopsydaisy! I almost hit you! No harm done though, hey?") rather than causing a fatality through 18 seconds of not giving the road any attention whilst driving.

"The jury was told steering lightly to the right would have been enough to pass Mr Hilson as he travelled in the same direction on his Specialized road bike."

Grim news. What chance do we have?

Exactly. This is the sort of road where cyclists don't have a chance if they happen to get hit. Even if you're zooming along at 20mph, a rear-end shunt is 40mph closing velocity.

The horrific death at Drumnadrochit and all those on A roads are the same.

But it's all right, Keith has looked at the numbers, turned the graphs upside down and things are safer than ever and there's no need for strict liability as nobody ever takes their eyes off the road for 20 seconds to faff around with their GPS, radio, CD player, mobile phone, ipad or any of the other electronic gadgets to be found in a modern car.
