CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Ian Aitken, chief executive of Cycling Scotland, said: “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and it is important we move away from the ‘us and them’ mentality of some drivers, cyclists and pedestrians when in fact almost everybody falls into at least two of those categories. Road safety is most effectively achieved through a combination of the three E’s – engineering, education and enforcement, so we see this as being a key step towards educating people about the need for consideration of other road users. In conjunction with measures such as Police Scotland’s recent enforcement campaign to support vulnerable road users and a continued programme of infrastructure investment, this campaign will help everyone know how to respect each other in our shared road space.”

I'm assuming this is a satirical festival piece that pokes fun at the absurdity of some Government information campaigns. The alternative, i.e. the Government has spiked half a million quid of cycling cash on telling people to be "nice", is just too ridiculous.

The Nice Way Code campaign is supported by; The AA, The Bike Station, British Horse Society (Scotland), CTC (UK), Cycling Scotland, Institute of Advanced Motorists, Lothian Buses, Motorcycle Action Group, Paths for All, Police Scotland, Ramblers Scotland, Road Haulage Association, Safer Scotland, Society of Chief Officers of Transportation in Scotland (SCOTS), Scottish Cycling, Scottish Taxi Federation, Sustrans Scotland, Transport Scotland

So the key question is -
"What are those organisations going to do to get this across to their members?"
Is all the money going on 'public' advertising or is any left over for getting 'professional drivers' to take note/change habits??
I just made the mistake of reading the Cycling Scotland press release about the campaign. It does genuinely read like a satirical piece. We've got comments from the AA, Sustrans, Paths for All, the Police, the IAM and Cyclign Scotland all saying, "If we can all get along then the roads will be lovely."
Because, of course, people are going to read about the campaign and think, "y'know what, they're right, I'm now going to stick to the 20mph limit, not speak on my mobile, and always use my indicators."
The Cycling Scotland quote is telling, because it goes on to say that the best way to make the roads safer is better infrastructure. Didn't stop them signing up to £500k of public money being splurged on this campaign. £500k!
It's not an enforceable thing like drink driving or wearing a seatbelt. You're not going to have cops driving round stopping peds, cyclists and drivers and giving them tickets for 'not being nice'. Have they relaunched 'The Day Today'?
There's also a comment from the police about having seen recently the tragic consequences of accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians (as in cyclists and pedestrians being killed by cars). I wonder how many of those cyclists or pedestrians weren't 'being nice'... Did they kill themselves through not being nice Mr Policeman? Why no mention of motorists in that little section about people being killed on the roads?
They are playing politics with people's lives.
I'm ashamed of this country, and the way it is stage managed.
Keith Brown quote "While the numbers of road casualties in Scotland are at their lowest ever level ..."
Tell that to the families of Alastair Dudgeon, Alistair MacBean, Charles Aimer, Craig Tetshill, Kyle Allan, David Wallace, Douglas Brown, Connor Shields and Mary Brook...

Aye, I liked Magnatom's comparison to Bill & Ted.
"Be Most Excellent To Each Other, Dudes and Dudettes".
"No Way? Yes Way!"
"Like, Totally Bodacious, Duuuuuuuude!"
The campaign is like a spoof. Y'know, like the 118 ads. Whichever ad agency got this account must be laughing all the way to the Cayman Islands.
It's OK, they are making not being nice to people illegal - and Police Scotland have agreed to have no tolerance enforcement.
"Keith Brown launches a groundbreaking, first of its kind, campaign encouraging road users to treat each other with consideration."
Might be a reason it's 'first of its kind'.
But what exactly is the 'nice way code'. I know of the Highway Code, the Green Cross Code, the Countryside Code. Each of them is a set of codified rules, obligations and advice. So what is the nice way code?
BTW - he looks like Mr Tumble on their blog.
nicewaycode.com is appalling.
"telling off cyclists and urging them to get better at respecting the rules of the road"
Quality mission statement, there.
This is the pits. So who is this written for, really?
Its basically just drivel copy that is directed back at them who gave them the brief.
and the brief is that we're all equals on the road, regardless of the ability to cause injury or harm. or death.
because that's the only message that's politically acceptable to be pushed to the electorate in a backwater country like Scotland.
For shame.

I left a comment on their page.: "This campaign has got be a joke. It is a joke, isn't it? You can't actually be serious!"
Just read The Courier article that chdot linked to in the first post. Excellent work by PoP - it's clear that the Scottish Government don't like it up 'em - how dare a cycling group not sing their praises.
Also, the £58m figure rears it head again. While not a lie, this is the figure for expenditure on cycling and walking over three years, an average of £19.3m per year for 2012/13 to 2014/15. It is worth noting that this is less than the Scottish Government spends on supporting Opera, Orchestras and the National Theatre - you may consider this worthy expenditure, but it gives an indication of how low expenditure on cycling actually is.
I see they have a twitter hashtag for it. I foresee some persistent lampooning.

Wonder how long before anyone changes it...
"The campaign asks drivers to give cyclists more space and overtake them with care and to look carefully for pedestrians crossing, while cyclists are asked to obey red lights and not cycle on the pavement. Pedestrians are included too, with messages about not trying to cross the road while looking at your phone."
Hang on, didn't Cycling Scotland have a campaign just recently about 'Give Me Space'? Are they saying that it didn't work?
Things I'd ask drivers to do:
Obey red lights
Pay attention
Not exceed the speed limit
Not park in bike lanes or on pavements
Don't block hatched junctions or lit crossings
Don't use your vehicle to intimidate
Things I'd ask cyclists to do:
Obey red lights
Not ride on the pavement
Be careful around pedestrians, especially on shared use paths
Things I'd ask pedestrians to do:
Look before crossing the road (Tufty club!)
Keep your eyes open if wearing headphones
I do hope fellow CTC members will be pressing CTC HQ as to why exactly they have backed this ludicrously patronising campaign.
As for Sustrans, well we're beginning to expect patronising twaddle directed at cyclists from them, unfortunately.

The Niceway Code would be funny, if people weren't dying on the roads. It really is time that the Scottish Government started to take it seriously.
Can't we all just get along? Now where did I hear that before...oh yeah... http://youtu.be/1sONfxPCTU0
You really couldn't make this **** up could you?..... "why don't you all just play nice children and share the road space"
sigh..... .
If you are a CTC member, please ask why it is CTC policy to support this.
I know that a fair few of you guys on here aren't on twitter. Now would be an excellent time to set up an account and tell @nicewaycode what you think of them. Wuld be good if it weren't all coming from the usual suspects. So far everything on fb is negative too....
Just starting....
I will, of course, be sharing my £450k agency fee with @Wilmington's Cow:
