Could be an amazing protest cycle, with all cyclists wearing horse heads!

Our #nicewaycode bus campaign will appear in your town soon! If you see it, be sure to cough fumes loudly in support!

Now, I'm no marketing expert ... all references to Incredinburgh in the comments section will be automatically deleted :-(

... but surely it's not too late to make some adjustment (or even selective deletion?) to the pre-booked advertising space and/or any ongoing message development for the campaign??

    That would be nice.

I think @jakeybate, while he makes some sound points has got it wrong. Wrong in the sense that he principally blames Newhaven for things that I think are really not Newhaven's fault.

Of course there's plenty of reason to be critical of Newhaven but I don't think they were given an unclear brief and I don't think they've misunderstood the brief. I think they were given a very clear instruction that they were to produce a "balanced" campaign focused on mutual respect. I suspect the instruction reflects an insistence by the minister that this is what he wanted to see - the so called even handed, mutual respect, aspect - and neither Cycling Scotland nor Newhaven had any real option but to implement it. In some respects, given their scope, they've done pretty well (in the technical sense of producing well made, crap adverts).

While not letting Newhaven completely off the hook (they could always walk away), they are what I described at one point as prancing circus ponies dancing to the crack of the Keith Brown ringmaster's whip and, to mix metaphors, the more we focus on the monkeys the easier a time the organ grinder gets.

I'm certain that the brief indicated that motorists (ie. the ordinary voters) should not be unduly singled out for a talking to. Maybe this was verbally conveyed at a meeting.

Regardless of that i'm getting sidetracked now by visions of prancing circus ponies dancing on crack supplied by keith brown at the school gates. or something. would make a nice ad.

Is that the only bus advert there is going to be? One aimed at cyclists?

I *think* there might be one about drivers and ASLs.

But it's always possible the whole campaign will be scrapped...

i don't see how it can be scrapped or deemed an abject failure when CTC and Sustrans are on board as supporters.

That alone makes it a win for the authorities, regardless of the blog twittersphere derision

So I've had this conversations far too many times this week

"I see where you're coming from but to be fair like yesterday I saw a cyclist **insert thing cyclist did**"

I've just been saying yep, some cyclists need to sort themselves out. Then without saying anything I repeat everything bad I saw a car doing this am on my 10 minute commute (always at least 2 incidents of phone/eating/taxi madness). And point out that thewse actions could easily kill a pedestrian/other road user.

    Seems to be working.

  15. The video is on this thread...

Interestingly Nice Way Code haven't tweeted at all for 15 hours now (not since they got snarky with someone who had pointed out the lack of horses in Edinburgh, their reply being that there were loads of police horses in Glasgow).

There's at least 2 complaints with the ASA about them. Can't possibly comment.

Weekend starts early during Festivus. Especially for bright young creatives who have comedy shows, night clubs and parties to attend!

Perhaps, but some of it was being done in the evening.

This looks like a change of policy...

Perhaps they have 'spent' their allocated budget for social media, responding to all of the angry tweets, rather than putting out their message. Social media isn't 'free'.

I'm sure they'll be right back on the Tweet button Monday morning. Festivus is calling all young media professionals...

I suspect there is some truth in that.

Unlikely to anticipated the volume of comments on the blog.

But one evening on Twitter the person posting basically said 'I'm doing this in my own time'.

Think there was be a decision 'not to react' - it was having the effect of fuelling the backlash.

Today it's quietened down to a sniping between those who hate the bus ads and those who think they are OK!

IF there is another blog post and no mention on Twitter that'll presumably show they have abandoned it.

Sustrans and CTC seem to have stopped mentioning NWC.
