Rubber traffic counting things on the Lanark Road as well.
Love the letter, SRD!
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

i'd missed this earlier:

great headline:
LEITH TO GO COMPLETELY 20MPH, APART FROM SOME BITS THAT REALLY NEED IT
another one i'd missed:

nice critique of Neil Greig and the EEN
I see the Say No march is set for the 21st of February.
How do you say no to 20 on a march? It's a bit slow and ponderous. Maybe they could do something amusing with exaggerated temporary speed bumps along the route that the procession has to go over every few yards giving a Mexican wave effect.
From above link -

You might like to read this review of the evidence, which shows that 'Twenty mile per hour zones and limits are effective means of improving public health via reduced accidents and injuries.

SAY NO TO SAY NO TO 20MPH CAMPAIGN!
They just need to read this -
http://jpubhealth.oxfordjournals.org/content/early/2014/09/28/pubmed.fdu067.abstract
And then talk to less selfish relations/friends (if they have any).
Presumably they'll arrange everyone so that the slowest walkers are at the front so that the faster people at the back can complain that their gearboxes can't handle going so slowly. Perhaps all participants will be advised to consume large quantities of lentils and peas the evening before the march to artificially raise their pollution production.
Rumours of counter protest being mobilised by Critical Mass/POP2015, with mass interspersing of cyclists between Petrolheads trying to walk! Skittles and Daleks littering the city centre; collision casualties strewn in all corners! Pande-chaos ensuing with moving brawls worthy of Casuals and elbow bending Pinters! Many cyclists turn out and join into NO to 20 march mistakenly believing it supports 20 limit; faux pas only discovered after EEN voxpop, and reporter has to make enough copy mistakes to re-dress the balance, and churn out the wrong message in the right way to shock and cajole the Burgers to buy a copy of the Chipwrapper! Oh Woe is There!
Rabid Hamster - you misunderstand the No Limiters!
V/O in a calm David Cameron tone:
"They are going to send out a clear message to the people of Edinburgh that drivers are walkers too. Their's is not a movement of division but one that encompasses everyone - people that have three cars, two cars, or one. They do not foist their divisive ideas on an unwilling population. Theirs is not a movement where you have to own and balance a luxury item like a bicycle to get around town. The 'no limit' movement simply wants to promote the essential use of a daily necessity in a safe and convenient way. "
Much as you wouldn't want to run your fridge at too warm a temperature, the family car is at its safest and happiest at speeds close to, or a shade above 30mph. It is for this reason they will walk the streets of Edinburgh, stopping to reflect on how long it takes the traffic lights to change at each and every junction... They selflessly drive to ensure the city thrives and for that I think we should all be eternally grateful..."
When does going for a nice bike ride through the Old Town become a "counter protest"? I may have an important appointment in the Grassmarket on the morning of Saturday 21st which I can only reach by bike.
It's ironic that they have to do their 'Say no to 20mph' protest on foot
I wonder how many people will intend to take part but not bother because they can't find a parking space near enough to the start?
They selflessly drive to ensure the city thrives and for that I think we should all be eternally grateful...
Wow, you even had me convinced. I'm going to buy a car. Right now*!
* Other dates far, far into the future are also available.
"drive to ensure the city thrives"
Sadly that's the way too many planners/politicians think.
Adds to GDP too.
Though - if instead of spending so much money keeping cars on the road, it was spent in cafes, bike shops etc. might actually be the same GDP - but better(?)
"a luxury item like a bicycle to get around town"
Just spotted that one, bikes as a luxury item!
Tongue in cheek or are they just far removed from reality?
That Neil Greig on R4 Today just now saying 20mph with proper (expensive) traffic calming reduces speeds by about 9mph, 'signs only' by 2-3.
So he's in favour of spending money...
Mr. Naughtie says he will be reporting on it from Edinburgh tomorrow.
I'm sure he said signs were only 1-2mph?
I started listening half way through the piece, I think it was part of the BBC's 100 constituencies in 100 days thing they are doing, presumably Stroud's big item for debate is 20mph zones.
I just came in at the end of some local campaigner seemlying saying that 20mph zones were impractical due to all of Stroud's steep hills; I think he actually said it was dangerous to drive at 20mph.
The Green councillor, also interviewed responded along the lines of, "I'm not a professional driver, but I just put my car in to a lower gear and it goes up the hills just fine".
@Nelly "a luxury item like a bicycle to get around town"
Where did you see this?! I fancy a laugh on a Friday and can't find it :(
"@LivingStreetsEd: Very exciting to hear that @BBCr4today is coming to Edinburgh tomorrow to cover our 20mph plans. What would you like to tell @naughtiej ? "

Sorry @BBCr4today but @IAMgroup are simply not credible on 20mph limits.
http://www.20splentyforus.org.uk/PRel/bogusIAMrep.pdf
"
In addition to the IAM using the DfT data wrongly, as pointed out by Rod King, several Scottish councils have found that much of the DfT data was wrong. In some Council areas none of the accidents which were reported with 20mph limits were actually in 20mph limits. So a proper comparison would need to have the data checked first. This will probably have been done for local studies, but not for the national data.
"
A PROTEST march against the proposed 20mph limit to be imposed on many of the Capital’s streets is expected to attract hundreds of people.
Organisers say the march – which will kick off at 10am outside Dynamic Earth on February 21 – would call on council chiefs to scrap the controversial plans.
"
I say, hundreds eh? And 2,500 responses to the consultation was 'undemocratic'? How many were at PoP?
@WC: I opened the spread on attendance at between 40 and 60.
I'm still sticking to that; I don't think that enough people genuinely feel strongly enough about this to get out of bed on a cold Saturday morning in February.
I'll give them a little more pull, can I go for 80-100?
Any plans for a counter-demo?
Presumably Living Streets would want to show support for 20mph(?)
Tens rather than hundreds
Who's volunteering to count??
